Ecosystem Lesson Plan

This lesson plan for 6th-year science students focuses on ecosystems, exploring their components, organization, and the impact of human activity. The teacher will engage students through discussions, drawings, and visual aids to deepen their understanding of ecosystems and their significance. Key concepts include the definition of ecosystems, their living and non-living components, and the importance of maintaining ecological balance.

FEDERAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY OF MARANHÃO

ELEMENTS OF SCIENCE

LESSON PLAN
DISCIPLINE: Sciences
PROFESSOR: William Torres
YEAR: 6th year
UNIT 7: life and the environment
Chapter 1 - Organization and Survival in Ecosystems.

SURVEY: In a conversation circle with the students, I will assess their prior knowledge about what they
understand by ecosystem I will ask each one to draw what an ecosystem is on a paper
white that I will take. From this analysis, I will cite examples and start the subject.

PROBLEMATIZATION:

In light of the representations and discussions presented by the class, the teacher should
consider them and contextualize them in the study of ecosystems, for this, it becomes necessary
that the teacher establishes a dialogue with the students that is challenging and engaging.
Scientific dimension: What is the meaning of the word 'ecosystem?'; What are the
components of an ecosystem? What happens in the ecosystem? What characterizes a
ecosystem? What are the major ecosystems of the Earth? How can man change one
ecosystem? What is the importance of ecosystems for the maintenance of life on Earth?
Historical dimension: How long have ecosystems on Earth been undergoing
Changes? How humans have historically interfered with ecosystems.
natural?
Social dimension: Human interference in the various ecosystems of Earth has had
consequences? In what aspects?

SYSTEMATIZATION:
The use of printed images or posters will be essential, the images contain various
differentiated ecosystems. I will write on the board the concept of ecosystems and their components and
organization and after that we will see more or less the understanding of the students to try to outline the
importance of each of the ecosystems.

Ecosystem is the name given to a set of communities that live in a certain

local and interact with each other and with the environment, forming a stable system,
balanced and self-sufficient.
Components of an ecosystem
We can divide the components of an ecosystem into: living components and components
physicists and chemists.

The living components of an ecosystem are plants, animals, microorganisms, and

the other living beings. For example, in the Atlantic Forest, the palm tree, the jaguar, man, the
bacteria and mushrooms are some of the living components.
The physical and chemical components are those that make up the environment: space, water,
the air, the soil, the energy, the climate. Example: in the Atlantic Forest, the soil, the rainwater, the water
the soil, soil minerals, and air are some of the physical and chemical components found.
The organization of the ecosystem
In an ecosystem, there are many individuals of different shapes and characteristics.
These individuals are found forming populations and communities.
Population and community
The set of individuals of the same species is called an ecological population.
The set of all the different populations of plants and animals that inhabit a certain area is the
ecological community.
For example, in an ecosystem formed by various types of plants such as trees and the
ground plants. There are also various animals such as opossums, hawks, deer, and animals
microscopic, the species can be formed by opossums and the community can be formed
for the other beings inhabiting the ecosystem.
Habitat
The place where an individual, a population, or a community lives is called a habitat.
In this location, there are suitable conditions for your survival, such as climate,
water supply, food, breeding ground, etc. The habitat is often
characterized by the type of vegetation, such as, for example, the forest, or by the characteristic
physics, like rivers, seas, etc. Examples: the habitat of an individual of a manatee species is
the Amazon river; the habitat of the humpback whale population is the Atlantic ocean is the habitat of
community of living beings that inhabit this ecosystem
Ecosystems can be observed on different scales. The largest existing ecosystem is
the biosphere itself, which corresponds to all places on the globe where life exists. Another
an example is the tropical forests, which stand out for their great biodiversity. However,
ecosystems can occur on a small scale, as in a small self-sufficient aquarium
that contains plants, fish, and algae. It is worth noting that a single plant of a
forest can be considered an ecosystem, as it encompasses various organisms there
interact with abiotic factors. It is important to understand that all ecosystems are
interconnected and therefore there is an exchange of matter and energy between them, regardless of
its size. Thus, each ecosystem, even if small, is important to ensure
the balance of the planet.
