Service Information Letter SIL 129
SIL 170 Issue 2
PURPOSE
This Service Information Letter (SIL) has been revised to add Service Bulletins NAC-71-0285 and NAC-71-
0290 references, A319-133 added to the following component interchangeability tables: Table 1.0 (Inlet
Cowl), 2.0 (Fan Cowl), 3.0 (Forward Engine Mount) and 4.0 (Aft Engine Mount) and Figure 2.
The purpose of this SIL is to inform operators of the interchangeability of the V2500-A1/A5 Nacelle major
components. The aim is to provide Operators with a reference guide to the Nacelle components that are
interchangeable with minimum modifications to the component. This will be especially advantageous to
Airlines that operate a mixed V2500-A1/A5 Airbus fleet (A320 family).
This SIL has been provided solely as a reference document and part numbers quoted in the text will not be
revised. Therefore it is important that operators consult the relevant manual to establish the current part
number(s) and component configuration to maintain the certification of the powerplant. Any subsequent
changes to the V2500 Nacelle Major Components that affect their interchangeability will be communicated in
further issues of this Service Information Letter.
This document contains information Proprietary to International Aero Engines AG (IAE
SERVICE INFORMATION LETTER
170 – Issue 3
The information contained within this SIL refers to components contained in ATA 71, Inlet Cowl, Fan Cowl
and Engine Mounts. Components contained within ATA 78, Thrust Reverser, Common Nozzle Assembly
(CNA) and Tail Cone are contained in SIL171.
A standard format of summary table has been used throughout this SIL to clarify whether a component is fully
interchangeable. A legend has been included after the summary table stating the conditions required to
facilitate interchangeability. For example “No” means the component is not interchangeable for this
application and often an explanation is given in parentheses ( ). “Yes”, with a letter in parentheses ( ) means
the component is interchangeable as long as the conditions as stated are fully complied with.
DESCRIPTION
1.0 INLET COWL
V2500-A1 and V2500-A5 Issues
1.1 Inlet cowls are not interchangeable between V2500-A1 and V2500-A5 engines. The reasons for this
are given below:
1.1.1 Significant work would be needed to modify a V2500-A5 inlet cowl for use on the V2500-A1 and the
result would not give an interchangeable part. Later V2500-A5 inlet cowls have a flange on the rear of the
intake that has a larger diameter than the V2500-A1 fan case. This flange is a separate item, but is very
difficult to remove in practice.
1.1.2 The V2500-A5 inlet has a section of deeper acoustic treatment with a larger diameter, “buzz-saw”,
liner that improves noise attenuation at certain fan speeds. This means that various elements of the EBU
(Engine Build Unit), the NAI (Nacelle Anti Ice) and starter air ducts were modified as a result.
1.1.3 In summary, to make V2500-A5 and V2500-A1 inlet cowls fully interchangeable there is a
requirement to use an un-configured mix of EBU taken from both engine designations. There would also be a
need to incorporate a modification to the interface between the fan case and the intake.
V2500-A5 Issues
1.2 The baseline component part number of the V2522/24-A5 (A319-131/2) and V2533-A5 (A321-231)
includes the improved TAI outlet, introduced by SB V2500-NAC-71-0184.
The above issues are summarized in Table 1.0.

2.0 FAN COWL
V2500-A1 and V2500-A5 Issues
2.1 The V2500-A5 fan cowl has improved lightning strike protection. The V2500-A1 fan cowl does not
have the required standard; therefore it is not certified for use on the V2500-A5
2.1.2 V2500-A5 fan cowls can be used on V2500-A1 engines but not vice-versa, refer to SB V2500-NAC-
70-0621.

V2500-A5 Issues
2.2 The only V2500-A5 issue is to re-establish the correct strake configuration when fan cowl doors are
swapped between different aircraft designations.
The above issues are summarized in Table 2.0 below, and Figure 2.0 (Top Level P/N’s quoted)

3.0 FORWARD ENGINE MOUNT
V2500-A1 and V2500-A5 Issues.
3.1 V2500-A1 forward engine mounts (740 prefix part numbers) cannot be used on A5 engines. V2500-A5
forward engine mounts (745 prefix part numbers) can be used on A1 and A5 engines. V2500-A1 forward
engine mounts (740 prefix part numbers) can be modified and re-identified as V2500-A5 part numbers (745
prefix) by incorporation of SB’s V2500-NAC-71-0135 Rev 1 and V2500-NAC-71-0210 and can then be use
on A1 and A5 engines (refer to Service Information Letter Number 129 for more details).
