INTRODUCTION

The Philippines is one of the countries in Southeast Asia known for its rich culture and beautiful scenery.
This physical feature helps a lot in the country because it is one of those that brings in a large amount of
money that helps in the gradual rise of the country's economy. Among the regions in this country that
have contributed greatly to the development of our national economy and identity is the Cordillera
Administrative Region (CAR).

The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) is a landlocked region located within the northern part of
Luzon. It is made up of six major provinces including Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, and
Mountain Province. It is home to a huge number of Indigenous people in the country, particularly
Igorots, a general term for ethnic groups living in the highlands of Cordillera. These are the Bontocs,
Ibalois, Ifugaos, Isnegs, Kalingas, and Kankanaey.

Due to its geographical characteristics, including the presence of steep mountains, lack of infrastructure,
limited access to some services, and lack of passable roads, the production and transportation of goods
and services and also communication have been a challenge for the people living there. However, this
has not been a hindrance for this region to portray notable stability when it comes to economic
activities, which has led to this region being the country's fourth fastest-growing economy that records
nearly 6.9 percent economic growth in 2023. (Philippine Statistics Authority records as of 2023).

Generally, the study of the economic condition of an area such as the Cordillera is very helpful in
carrying out measures and activities to address the weaknesses, strengths, opportunities and threats of
an area or region, the things that can elevate it's economic condition and identity and those that hinder
the achievement of these economic goals.
