Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

evaluate whether the given sentences/paragraphs possess the properties of a
well-written text;
B. Skills apply the properties of a well-written text in writing sentences and paragraphs;

D. Attitude cultivate a growth mindset by recognizing the value of constructive criticism

3.3 Analysis After reading the paragraphs, the following questions will be asked.

Properties of a Well-written Text
1. ORGANIZATION
Organization is about the arrangement of ideas, incident, details
evidence and order. It is achieved when ideas are logically and accurately
arranged. Knowledge of the parts of a composition is a great help in
adhering to the correct organization of ideas. The sentences within a
paragraph must also be organized logically.

2. COHERENCE AND COHESION
It refers how ideas, sentences, and paragraphs are connected.
Using transitional and cohesive devices can help to assure coherence and
cohesion. For example, to signal additional information, you may use in
addition, moreover, similarly, likewise, etc. but when you are giving
contrasting idea, you may use phrases like on the other hand, however, on
the contrary, conversely, etc.
Coherence – occurs when sentences are logically connected to produce
meaningful whole.
Cohesion – occurs when lexical and grammatical elements of a
sentence are met.

3. APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE USED
It refers to the acceptable style of language for a specific situation or
usage of the text. For example, business correspondences uses formal,
concise and courteous tone. So, you should not use wordy phrases.
However, in literary pieces, language and style may be less formal and
more creative.
Levels of Language Use
a. Informal/ Personal – these are the slang words, local expressions,
text messaging
Examples: Sup, Gnyt, OTW, Bes, Bro
b. Standard/ Academic - these are the accepted words that usually
appear in books and magazines.
Example: Philippines is one of the richest countries in terms of language
having 172 documented languages according to Summer Institute of Linguistic.
These languages have their distinct sound systems, vocabulary and structure or
grammar.
c. Business/ Technical – these are scientific terms or jargons
Example: Both lungs are clear. Heart is not enlarge. Pulmonary
vascularity is not accented. Diaphragm and sinuses are intact.
Commonly Misused Words:

elicit - ilicit your – you’re
4. MECHANICS
It refers to the rules in writing like proper capitalization, punctuation,
spelling, numerals, abbreviations, acronyms, and contractions.
Example:
Poorly written: the department of education (deped) ensures that there
is continuous learning even in the time of pandemic
Improved text: The Department of Education (DepEd) ensures that there
is continuous learning even in the time of pandemic.

3.5 Application Individual Written Activity
I. Draw a if the paragraphs are well-written. Draw a
face if not.
_________________1. The best way to bake a cake is to follow the recipe. First,
gather all the ingredients. Next, preheat the oven to the recommended
temperature. After mixing the ingredients, pour the batter into a pan and bake.
Let the cake cool before serving.
_________________2. Maintaining a healthy body requires a balanced approach
that includes regular exercise, a nutritious diet, and adequate rest. Engaging in
physical activities like walking, running, or strength training helps improve
cardiovascular health and build muscle strength. Eating a diet rich in fruits,
vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins provides essential nutrients and
energy. Additionally, getting enough sleep each night is crucial for the body's
recovery and overall well-being.
_________________3. Living life to the fullest involves embracing new experiences,
pursuing passions, and cultivating meaningful relationships. It means stepping
out of your comfort zone to explore the world and learn new things. Pursuing
hobbies and interests that bring joy and fulfillment can add depth to everyday
life. More importantly, spending quality time with loved ones and nurturing
connections with others contributes to a richer, more satisfying life.
_________________4. Yesterday I went to the park, and I saw a dog. The weather
was cold, and I forgot my jacket. Dogs are really friendly animals, and some
people like to have them as pets. I also saw some kids playing soccer, and the
sky was cloudy. My friend called me later to talk about a movie we watched last
week.

always be honest with people because it builds trust and respect when you lie it can hurt

__________2. Every morning, I brush my teeth after breakfast. Then I check my phone for
messages. Sometimes I go for a walk in the evening. I eat lunch around noon. Before that, I
usually work on my assignments. At night, I watch TV before going to bed. I also take a
shower in the morning.
________3. Planting trees is really good because they clean the air and make oxygen, but
also they can be homes for birds and squirrels, or even frogs, maybe. Sometimes trees
make fruit that tastes so sweet, and you can climb them to reach the sky, but not too high,
just in case. It’s important to have them because they help with rain and sometimes they
even stop the wind from being too strong. Trees can also be like a forest, where
everything is green and peaceful, but only if we remember to water them, not too much
though!
________4. My dream vacation would be to visit the serene islands of the Maldives. I
imagine staying in a beautiful overwater bungalow with clear turquoise waters beneath
me. During the day, I would snorkel with vibrant fish and explore coral reefs, and in the
evenings, enjoy sunsets that paint the sky in brilliant hues. I’d indulge in fresh seafood and
relax on pristine beaches with my family, taking long walks by the shore. This peaceful
retreat would be the perfect escape to unwind and enjoy nature’s beauty.

and American influences in its traditions, cuisine, and festivals.
3.7 Assignment Improve the following paragraph observing the properties of a well-written text.
Being a responsible student means doing homework and being late to class sometimes,
but also always listening. You should help others, but also focus on your own work, like
grades are important. Sometimes it's hard to do everything, like following rules, but it’s
okay because being responsible is about doing your best. Also, remember to help your
friends with their homework, but don’t forget to ask the teacher questions too! Being a
student means being kind and working hard, so always try to be good, even when you're
tired.
