Q:16 A company was manufacturing LED bulbs which were in great demand. It was found that
the target of producing 300 bulbs a day was not met by the employees. On analysis it was
found that the workers were not at fault. Due to electricity failure and shortage of workers ,
the company was not able to achieve the set targets and alternative arrangements were
needed.

To meet the increased demand , the company assessed that approximately 88 additional
workers were required out of which 8 would work as heads of different departments and 10
would work as subordinates under each head. The required qualifications and job
specifications were also enlisted . it was also decided that necessary relaxations should be
given to encourage women , people from backward and rural areas and people with special
abilities to assume responsible positions in the organizations . all efforts were made to match
the ability of the applicants with the nature of work.

(a) Identify the functions of management discussed above.


(b) State the two steps in the process of each function discussed in the above paragraph.
(c) List any two values which the company wants to communicate to the society.

Q:17 PQR Ltd is engaged in manufacturing machine components. The target production is 200
units per day. The company had been successfully attaining this target until two months ago.
Over the last two months , it has been observed that daily production varies between 150-170
units.

(a) Identify the management function to rectify the above situation.


(b) Briefly state the procedure to be followed so that the actual production may come up to
the target production.

Q:18 Rajeev and sanjeev are managers in the same organizations heading different units.
While discussing about the functions of management , Rajeev says, “planning is looking ahead
where as controlling is looking back”.but sanjeev says , “ you are wrong because planning is
looking back where as controlling is looking ahead “. Both are giving reasons in favour of their
statements . explain the possible reasons given by both and justify who is correct.
Q:19 “Madhav Ltd.” Manufactures steel utensils . mr rajesh khanna is its production manager .
work in production department has been divided into several small parts . each small part of
the work has been entrusted to a group of five workers . production target of each group has
been determined at 1000 units per month. Besides , it has also been decided that if the actual
production of a group ranges between 50, then this deviation will be looked after by the
departmental manager. However ,if the deviation is beyond the limit , then it will be brought
to the notice of General manager.

(b) Also state on which particular concept the attention has been focused?

Q:20 Michal john is a sole proprietor in nicobar. He has started trade after getting M.B.A
Degree. He is fully familiar with all the functions of management.he starts his business with
the planning function of management. He desires that all his activities should conform to
planning. To this effect, he has adopted a system that keeps a constant watch on all activities
of the business. Consequently, there is zero possibility of adverse result . it can , therefore, be
said that this method is directly related to the results. Mr john also believes that this method
applies not only to any one level of management but to all the levels as well.

(a) Identify the function of management referred to in the aforesaid paragraph


(b) Describe the above mentioned two features of the functions of management as
identified under point (a) above.

Q:21 Prakash limited is a company manufacturing electrical goods. Smt renu bala is its
managing director. By virtue of her wise direction , company has achieved great heights. A
management institute one day invited her for a lecture. There she got an opportunity to
dialogue with the students of management studies. She narrated their work is being evaluated
and progress report prepared. Second , optimum use of human and physical resources should
be made possible.

ON the basis of the aforesaid paragraph write two points regarding the importance of the
controlling functions of management.

Q:22 Love and kush are two friends. Both are MBA (final year) students. One day their
professor called them to class stage for a surprise test . he told that one of them will establish
relationship between any two functions of management. Then, the other one , will establish
reverse relationship between the same two functions . both will have to give justification for
the relationship explained by them. It was a test carrying 50 marks. Both the students were
intelligent and skillful. Love was the first to speak. Love said that in his opinion of the two
functions of management selected by him one is always looking ahead (future) and the other
is looking back (past). No sooner did love express his opinion than kush identified the
functions selected by him(love). In his reply, kush said that the one function stated by love to
have been looking ahead was in his opinion ,looking back and the other one stated by him
(love)to have been looking back was looking ahead.

(a) identify the functions of management discussed in the above paragraph.


(b) Justify the contrary relations of management functions as viewed by love and kush.

Q:23 Mr Stanley Anthony is production manager of coconut oil and general mills Ltd. His main
virtue is that prior to doing any thing, he ponders over it . to explore and analyses different
options of each and every activity that is to be undertaken by him in future has become his
habit. Besides, he quickly bring his subordinates under his own influence. They do what he
wants. Inspite of all this, for the last few months performance of his department failed to
achieve the expected level . this situation put him into lot of worry . to counter this situation,
he sought help from some external specialists. Finally, he concluded that the poor
performance was due to two reasons : First , inefficiency of some newly recruited employees
and Second , wear and tear of machines. In order to remove these shortcomings he look the
following corrective actions :

(1) To remove the inefficiency of the employees he established a training centre and gave
its charge to an expert trainer,
(2) To deal with the wear and tear of the machines, he decided to replace them with the
new ones.

In the context of the above paragraph , answer the following questions :

(a) Identify by quoting the lines any two functions concerning management taken by Mr.
Anthony.
(b) Identify the two steps of controlling process mentioned here.
(c) Identify training method.

Q:24 Mr.jai prakash is the general manager of Bhagwati Udyog Pvt Ltd. With a view to running
his business in a careful manner, he divided all the activities into seven departments. These
departments were : Purchase, marketing, production, personnel, finance, accounting and
correspondence. Later on, he realized that accounting and correspondence department can be
merged into finance department. Thus , all the activities were divided into five departments.
Mr jai prakash is now thinking on the lines as to which are the departments , out of these five
that will have significant role in the success of the business. After complete analysis, he
concluded that marketing, production and finance were the department on which success of
the business depended. It meant that even of some shortcomings occurred in the departments
of purchase and personnel, it would not effect much the success of the business. Thereafter
mr jai parkash determined deviation tolerance limits of these three main departments. It
meant that if deviation of these departments remains with in this tolerance limit, then it will
be looked after by the concerned manager. However , in case the deviation is beyond this limit
then the same will be brought in the notice of general manager.

(a) Identify two functions of the management referred in the above paragraph.
(b) Describe the relevant concepts of identified functions.

Q:25 AS Ltd. Is a large company engaged in assembling of air conditioners. Recently the
company had conducted the `Time and Motion` study and concluded that on an average , a
worker can assemble ten air conditioners in a day. The target volume of the company in a day
is assembling of 1000 units of air conditioners. The company is providing attractive allowances
to reduce labour turnover and absenteeism. All the workers are happy. Even then the
assembling of air conditioners per day is 800 units only. To find out the reason, the company
compared actual performance of each worker and observed through CCTV that some of the
workers were busy in gossiping.

(a) Identify the function of management discussed above.


(b) State the steps in the process of the function identified which are discussed in the above
paragraph.

Q:26 Kapil &Co. is a large manufacturing unit. Recently the company had conducted time and
motion studies and concluded that on an average, a worker could produce 300 units per day.
However, it has been noticed that the average daily production per worker is in range of 200-
225 units.

(a) Name the function of management and identify the steps in the process of this function
which helped in finding out that the actual production of a worker is less than the set
target.
(b) To complete the process of the function identified in (a) and to ensure the performance
as per time and motion studies, explain what further steps a manager has to take ?
