DIESEL GENERATORS (8L23/30,950KW*720RPM)

Starting of Aux. Engines are preferably done locally. Routines of auxiliary engines are
being performed as per makers manual. Tappet clearances ,fuel valve change, LO filter
change and centrifugal filter change were done during my tenure for AE #1 and
AE#3,while tappet clearances and centrifugal filters change were done for AE#2. AE#2 is
overdue by about 400 hrs for major overhaul. A requisition is in place for the spares
required. For AE #3, there is a check valve on the priming lube oil pump line, this non
return valve was found to be malfunctioning, and another check valve with a new line
was fabricated and installed in place. A requisition is made for this non return valve.Aux.
Engine spare cylinder heads (2 Nos) are located near AE#3, they are pressure tested and
found satisfactory. Aux.Engine #1 at times does not come on standby when stopped,
problem was identified with a faulty PLC in the unit, a requisition for the same has been
raised.

BOILERS-(AALBORG, MISSION OL- 35T/HR.* 2:

At present, the #1 boiler is in use with the EGE and port boiler is in stand-by mode. The
steam coil in the water drum of each boiler in use will hold the stand by boiler at around
+ 3k and the EGE supplies all steam requirements with the service steam. The low
pressure duty steam system dump valve is set to keep 10bar boiler pressure at sea.

During the last discharging the setup we followed was both boilers on manual mode, one
IG boiler maintaining 40% load and the other was increased or decreased based on the
steam demand .

The boiler are using fuel from the F.O service tank

All alarms & trips also tested all are satisfactory.

Chemical dosing unit used for the control of the boiler chemical dosage. The chemical
dosing pumps adjusted as required to maintain the correct chemical reserves as required.
Boiler water & engine water monthly test reports posted to the office in the end of month.
Chemical dosing pumps are started/ stopped from remote pc in ECR.Spare burners are
overhauled and kept near the aux boilers.

Boiler water test to be done on daily basis .Aux.blr #2 furnace inspection carried out 17th
aug 2022.boiler f.o booster p/p overhauled on 20th Aug. 2022 and mechanical seal
renewed..aux blr #1 furnace inspection carried out in Nov 2022. .
Aux boiler #1 swirler inspection and cleaning carried out in Nov 2022
Aux boiler #2 swirler inspection and cleaning carried out in Aug 2022

The DP transmitter for aux boiler #2 was found not working , a requisition for the same
was made, spare received and calibrated onboard and the DP transmitter was tested and
found working satisfactorily. Another spare DP transmitter is in possession of the
electrical officer along with a flowmeter.

Air Torque motor for fuel line of A/B #2 was malfunctioning in Dec 22, same overhauled
and tested, found working satisfactorily.

. EXHAUST GAS ECONOMIZER(KANGRIM, 1.6TON/H):

EGE soot blow is to be done at least thrice a day during sailing.

FW washed and inspected at every opportunity and has no cause for concern. Last EGE
washed in Aug. 2022.

SEWAGE PLANT (EVAC Vacuum system):

This is a vacuum toilet system on board. Care is to be taken not to flush foreign objects
into the toilet bowl, remind the same to all crew during safety meetings. Before arrival in
port, changeover to sewage holding tank. Note that the sewage holding tank does not have
any high level alarm .Once in 2-3 weeks line up sewage discharge pump from holding
tank and discharge overboard while at sea.

EVAPORATORS (SASAKURA 30T/DAY *2):

There are two evaporators on board of 30tons/day capacity. The stbd FWG can also work
on steam. In order to minimize dumping to atmospheric condenser during sailing, we run
the stbd FWG on steam, take care not to exceed steam inlet pressure to the FWG more
than 4.5 bar . The main steam inlet valve to the stbd FWG was replaced in Dec 22, the
one which was in use overhauled and kept as spare. Ejector p/ps and distillate p/ps
working satisfactory. Chemical dosing tanks for FWG were set up after our take over, the
ball valve for the chemical injection to the unit needs to be throttled for the tank to last for
a period of about 24 hrs , Chemical circulation of stbd FWG were carried out in Nov 22

Port FWG chemical circulation was carried out in October 22

LT COOLERS AND SEA CHEST (GEA ECOFLEX):

Chemical circulation of LT coolers were carried out at last discharge port along with
cleaning of filters .The set point for LT system is 35 degrees. At temperatures above 39
deg c ,the ecr ac and ac trip, main engine rpm may be reduced after confirming from
bridge to keep temperatures within limits(below 38 dec C). The fwd LT cooler tends to get
more clogged than the aft LT cooler. LT cooler tray drain line ,enters the ER via pump
room, the line was found to be clogged with shells, accumulated over a period of time ,
same was cleared this month, take care while cleaning LT cooler filters, that the shells do
not enter the drain line.

Port sea chest was cleaned in November and stbd sea chest in October.

AIR CONDITIONING(York Refrigeration,CMO 2) AND REFER SYSTEMS(Sabroe-

BFO 3):

The refrigerant used is R404A, Shaft seal for stbd ac was changed in august .every month,
AHU units and ac compressors are changed over. AHU filters are replaced monthly and
the unit disinfected with dil. sodium hypochlorite solution. Capacity control is achieved by
manually taking off solenoid valves from the compressor unit as required to avoid
frequent cutting in and out of the stages.

Stbd refer valve plates were changed along with gaskets the stbd refer motor failed in
November while the compressor was running. The motor windings were found to be burnt.
An urgent requisition has been made for the same.

Port refer gaskets for sight glass and end covers were also changed

Both AC and refer condensers were cleaned in November 22.

FUEL OIL AND LUBE OIL SEPARATORS(HFO –OSC30,LO-OSC-15):

All separators were inspected and cleaned after our take over, they are running
satisfactorily.AE lo purifier is run when required only on the stand by generator. Friction
pads for #1 FO Purifier were worn out, same replaced in Dec 22.

AIR COMPRESSORS(M.A.C-HV2/210,200m3/hr*30k,top up comp –HV1/156A_)

All air compressors are in good running condition. During maneuvering, the main air
compressors are set to high mode. Valves inspection was done for both main air
compressors. Cylinder head gasket was changed for both main air compressors.

Deck service air compressor (TAMROTOR-150M3/HR*7K) oil change, oil separator

and oil filter change carried out in November. Please ensure air on deck is shut before
going unmanned.

OILY WATER SEPARATOR(RWO-5M3/HR*15PPM)

The pump suction filter needs to be replaced prior every operation. The coalesce filter
was changed in November, there are 2 sets of spare coalesce filter available. The 15 ppm
unit was calibrated by the Deckma calibration kit in November. The kit is available with
CE .Certificates for the same were made onboard and are available in the certificates file.

MGPS(ECOLCELL R1500 ,1300M3/H):

It is imperative to check that sea water flow is present in the system during daily rounds.
The Y strainer and line filter for the MGPS needs to be cleaned atleast on a monthly basis.
In December 22, complete maintenance was done for the unit, clogged lines were cleared
of debris , few leaks in the unit due to damaged gaskets were rectified and the system put
into use. It is now working satisfactorily.

INCINERATOR(HMMCO,MAXI 100SL-1)

The incinerator refractory needs to be built up, we have already built it up twice after our
take over from previous management but the refractory material was not of good quality,
A requisition for Plicast40 is in order. The sludge dosing pump was overhauled and found
few parts of the gear assembly broken. These parts were fabricated onboard and the
dosing pump was installed, however, it failed after running for a few hours, a new gear
assembly was supplied in Korea (Dec 22) and installed, incinerator tried out on sludge
mode and working satisfactorily.

PUMPS

Pumps are changed over on a monthly basis. For odd months, GSP No.1 is used and for
even months GSP No.2 is used. Once changed over, the strainers for the stand by pumps
are cleaned and kept ready for use .All pumps are running satisfactorily. The HFO
transfer pump had a minute leak in the mechanical seal area which was rectified by
lapping old seal, we received a spare seal and attempted to change it but the spare seal
would not enter the seal housing area. The standby fire and GS pump outlet valve leading
to the overboard line is kept shut to avoid the standby pump motor to turn when in stand
still condition. A section of the GS overboard line was replaced this month as it had a hole
in it .

CRANES

The stbd hose handling crane limit switch was malfunctioning, same was replaced with a
new one .It is working fine now. In case a limit switch needs to be installed in future, turn
the key of the hydraulic limit switch externally before installation of the assembly and
bring the limits in position, before installation.
MISCELLANEOUS:
 During changeover of LT pumps, always put air compressors on manual, shut
cooling water and open vents, otherwise a pressure surge in the system causes the
acrylic gasket in the compressor to break. Spare gaskets are available in the
compressor parts locker.
 All manuals are arranged in ECR in order, kindly maintain the same. An additional
set of manual is located at the CE office
 Inventory of all spares are updated in the excel file , kindly update the same when
consumed.
 Inventory of precision and measuring tools are available in the inventory file. .
 Inventory of all spare v belts are located in the inventory file, kindly update r.o.b
once any v belt is use
 Update daily work done in the second engineer folder with pictures of photographic
evidence as this is being sent to the office every day.
 Month end paperwork need to be completed by the 3rd of the following month, for
the December month end, only update the running hours.
