B. Reading Comprehension
Read the text and answer the questions:

Saving the Environment

The environment is the world around us. It includes the air we breathe, the water we drink, the
land we walk on, the trees, and the animals. When we take care of the environment, we are
helping all living things — including ourselves. But today, the environment is facing many
problems. There is too much rubbish, too much pollution, and too many trees being cut down.

Luckily, there are many simple ways we can help. Even children can do a lot to make the Earth
a cleaner and healthier place.

One important way to help is by reducing waste. Many people throw away plastic bags,
bottles, and packaging. These things do not break down easily and can stay in the ground or the
sea for hundreds of years. Animals can also get hurt by plastic. To help, we can use reusable
bags, lunchboxes, and water bottles. We can also recycle paper, plastic, metal, and glass.

Another way to help is by saving electricity. Electricity is made in power stations that often
pollute the air. When we leave lights, TVs, or computers on for too long, we use more power
than we need. If we turn off lights and unplug chargers when we’re not using them, we help
reduce pollution.

We can also save water. Clean water is very precious. Turning off the tap while brushing our
teeth or taking shorter showers helps save water for everyone.

Planting trees is another excellent way to help the Earth. Trees give us oxygen to breathe, keep
the air clean, and provide homes for birds, insects, and other animals. Even planting one tree
can make a difference!

Finally, we can help by walking or riding bikes instead of always using cars. Cars produce
dirty gases that make the air unhealthy. If more people walk or bike, the air will be cleaner and
we’ll stay fit too.

The environment needs our help. If we all work together and do small things every day, we can
protect the planet for ourselves and for the future.
