COURSE OUTCOME

After completion of the course, the students shall be able to:

1. Understand the prevailing financial system in India.


2. Acquire knowledge about different financial services
3. Comprehend the basics of financial markets in India
4. Apprise about the roles of intermediaries and regulating bodies in Indian Financial
System.

SYLLABUS

UNIT- I
Financial system in india: Its structure and role of financial system in economic
development. Financial markets: characteristics of financial markets - Capital markets and
money markets – interlink between money market and capital market- SEBI and regulations
of primary and secondary markets.
UNIT – II
Financial instruments: Govt. securities, treasury bills, commercial bills, commercial papers
and certificates of deposits, securities markets- functions, organisation and structure, listing,
trading and settlement. Introduction to SEBI
UNIT- III
Financial Services: Concept, nature, and scope of financial services- regulatory framework
of financial services- growth of financial services in india . Financial services. lease finance,
consumer credit and hire purchase finance, factoring- definition, functions, advantages,
evaluation and forfeiting, bills discounting, housing finance, stock broking and credit rating.

Mutual funds: concepts and objectives, functions and portfolio classification, organization
and management, guidelines for mutual funds, working of public and private mutual funds in

capital in india.

It is compulsory for all the students to have 75% attendance in each subject at the end of the
semester failing which the student will not be allowed to write the final exam.

 Do not create indiscipline.


 Be on time.
 Participation in the class is highly encouraged so as to enforce interaction amongst the students
which may also yield marks in Class Participation.

 No activities of misconduct such as usage of mobile phones, misbehaviour, personal comments,
obstructive behaviour shall be tolerated in the class. Any student committing the same shall be
liable for serious consequences.
 Submission of Project Assignments should be done on the stipulated date. No extensions for any
reason shall be given to any student.

 Follow the deadlines for any given projects or tests. (No submission of the project after the
deadline will be accepted.)

NISM certification
https://www.nism.ac.in/nism-certifications/
There are different cerifications for different topics, like for equities and derivatives, for
mutual funds, for currency exchange, for risk management, for valuation, etc. In total, there
are 33 types of certification. Student can do certification in any tpoic of their interest. If you
are interested in working in stock market, it is recommended to do NISM VIII or V. NISM
VIII is for equities and derivatives and NISM V is for mutual funds.
Fees: Rs.1500/-
Date of registration: Students should decide upon the type of certification and register it
before 14th August, 2025. Students are advised to complete the certification within 1 month.

Presentation Details

Students have to lay emphasis on the understanding of the topic given to them by presenting
all the details related to the specific topic through a presentation.
They have to give the details such as:
1. Introduction of the Topic
 Brief and simple explanation of the chosen topic
 Define key concepts in own words
2. Importance and Relevance
 Why the topic is important in the financial system?

 Real-life relevance (Who uses it? Where is it seen in daily finance?)
3. Core Concepts and Structure
 Explain the components/elements involved (e.g., in mutual funds: NAV, portfolio,

 Use of charts, diagrams, flowcharts for clarity
4. Current Trends / Market Data
 Include latest data, examples, and statistics (if possible)
 Reference recent developments/news (e.g., top-performing mutual funds, latest IPOs)
5. Real-Life Examples or Case Study
 Include one mini case study (real or hypothetical) to demonstrate application of the
concept
 For example: Case of a SIP in HDFC Mutual Fund, or comparing a car loan from SBI
vs HDFC

 Balanced analysis of benefits and drawbacks of the financial service/instrument

1. Bibliography is a must

2. Presentation is a must for all subjects across all departments

3. The college template is to be followed for both the synopsis and the PPTs

4. However, PPTs are not compulsory

5. Student is expected to come dressed as per college regulations. In case s/he isn’t, then
she/he will not be permitted to present. The student can present in the subsequent Reappear
which will be evaluated out of 10 marks and not 20.

6. Sequence of presentations will be determined by pulling chits from a box. In case a student
is not present when his name is called out, he will be evaluated out of 10 marks and that too
in the Reappear Presentation.

7. Attendance is to be marked within the first five minutes of start of the Presentation.
Students can keep joining class thereafter.

8. It is mandatory for a student to have recorded attendance in at least five out of a total six
attendances spread over either a day-and-a-half or two days failing which the student is to be
assessed out of 10 marks and not 20.
