What is UX Design?
UX design, short for User Experience Design, is the process of designing products, systems, or
services that are easy, enjoyable, and effective for people to use. The goal is to create
experiences that solve user problems while aligning with business objectives.
Difference between UX and UI
● UX (User Experience) = How it feels to use a product
● UI (User Interface) = How it looks and works visually
Example: If UI is the layout of a restaurant menu, UX is how easy and pleasant it is for you to
find what you want, order it, and enjoy the meal.
Why UX Design Matters
● Improves usability
● Reduces frustration
● Increases customer loyalty
● Boosts conversions and revenue
From Industrial Design to Digital UX
UX traces its roots to industrial design and human factors engineering. Henry Dreyfuss, a
pioneer in ergonomic design, emphasized designing for the human body and mind.
Digital UX Emergence
With the rise of computers in the 1980s and the internet in the 1990s, UX became essential in
software design. Don Norman, who popularized the term “User Experience,” stressed that
products must be useful, usable, and desirable.
The Modern Era
Now, UX applies to websites, mobile apps, smart devices, AI assistants, VR, AR, and even
physical products integrated with digital systems.
1. Research
● User interviews
● Surveys
● Contextual inquiry
● Competitor analysis
2. Define
● Create user personas
● Map customer journeys
● Define problem statements
3. Ideate
● Brainstorming sessions
● Sketching
● Wireframing
4. Prototype
● Low-fidelity prototypes (paper sketches, wireframes)
● High-fidelity prototypes (Figma, Adobe XD)
5. Test
● Usability testing
● A/B testing
● Remote testing
6. Iterate
● Analyze feedback
● Refine and improve
