Introduction to
Personal Project

“If you could learn or create anything in the world, what would it be?”
What is Personal Project ?
It’s an individual, student-led project done over Grade 10
It’s based on your passion or interest
It involves investigating, creating a product, and reflecting on the learning journey
You’ll work with a supervisor, maintain a process journal, and submit a final report and product
The Personal Project is a student-driven project, that happens in the last year of the MYP. Students
choose a topic to explore through learning a new skill/knowledge and creating a product/outcome.
Through the project students demonstrate and strengthen their Approaches to Learning (ATL Skills).
The Personal Project is the culminating project of the MYP - a great way to celebrate students
learning journey through the MYP!
Some Examples from Last year
1. Designing a Short Tales book on mental health awareness
2. Creating a cooking blog based on family recipes for International Audience
3. Building a recycled art installation for Fundraising
4. Learning photography and holding a small exhibition showcasing emotions
5. A recyclable sanitary pad for creating awareness in villages and helping poor people.
6. A cycle that when you paddle generates electricity
7. A Car pooling app that helps people in bangladesh travel economically
What's your Dream project?
“Imagine there are no limitations. No grades, no rules, no judgment.
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn, make, or explore deeply?”
Prompt them to write/illustrate in their journals or on a handout:
● Write a title for “Dream Project”
● What would it be about? What would I like to do?
● What skill or learning goal would it involve?
● Why is this meaningful to you?
● What product would come out of it? (poster, model, campaign, app, etc.)
Brainstorm 5 ideas at Home
Personal Project Brainstorm Activity (Homework)
1. Brainstorm 5 project ideas at home.
○ Talk to your parents, relatives, and friends.
○ Look at the news, social media, and your surroundings.
○ Think about what you've always wanted to do and how it can help others (give your project a purpose).
2. Narrow it down:
○ From 5 ideas → choose your best 3,
○ Then 2,
○ Then your final idea.
3. Use brainstorming methods (mind maps, lists, drawings, etc.).
○ Add images or photos of your brainstorm to ManageBac (this is mandatory).
4. Your final idea must be written in the Proposal Form with a SMART Analysis.
Is Your Project S.M.A.R.T ?
How SMART Analysis Works in Personal Project
✍ Step 1: Setting Your Goal
After you've brainstormed an idea, apply the SMART criteria to refine and finalize your learning goal and project goal.
Initial idea: This is just an example
"I want to make a film about pollution."
SMART Version:
● S (Specific): I want to create a 5-minute awareness short film about water pollution in Dhaka.
● M (Measurable): I will measure success through feedback from 10 viewers and how effectively the message is communicated.
● A (Achievable): I have basic video editing skills and access to a smartphone and editing software.
● R (Relevant): I care deeply about the environment and want to use film to raise awareness.
● T (Time-bound): I will complete my research in 2 weeks, film in 3 weeks, and edit in 2 weeks.
Resulting SMART Goal:
● "I will create a 5-minute short film raising awareness about water pollution in Dhaka, using my existing skills and available tools, completed in 7
weeks, and evaluated by viewer feedback."

In the process journal start the Phase 1 - Complete before you meet the supervisor

work on it in the vacation, after coming back PHASE 1 and 2 should be seen as a report.
This summer vacation is a very important time for Personal Project Planning - Any Survey, any interview, any
course or certification is needed has to be done within this time. The phase 1 and 2 needs a lot of future

august.
