COMMUNITY SERVICE

WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

STUDENT NAME- Jayesh Bhatt REGISTRATION NO. 24223026

DATE-31-1-25

NAME OF INSTITUTION- Nirbhed Foundation

Use the prompts given below to present your weekly reflections about the
community engagement experience and your major learnings and insights from
the work done.

1. What did you do?

I visited Nirbhed Foundation and taught Grade 1 students math and English. In
math, we covered tables and decimals, while in English, we discussed and learned
about nouns. The children were excited about learning math but found nouns a bit
challenging as it was a new concept for them. To make learning enjoyable, I
incorporated games at the end of the class.
2. Examine your experience in terms of (any one of the following) –
(a) Civic Knowledge (use of any academic learning in community
engagement) (b) Civic Skills (role of community engagement in personal
growth)
(c) Sense of responsibility (towards self or others)

Teaching new concepts like nouns helped me enhance my ability to communicate

complex concepts in a simple and engaging way. It also improved my patience and
adaptability, as I had to modify my teaching approach based on the children's
responses. Engaging with the students reinforced the importance of active
listening and understanding their unique learning needs, which are essential skills
for both personal and professional growth.

3. One major learning from today’s community service work

One major learning from today’s community service work is the importance of
making learning interactive and engaging rather than relying on rote memorization.
While teaching the children, I noticed that they were highly enthusiastic about
learning math because they found it easy to understand when explained through
simple methods. However, they struggled with grasping the concept of nouns, likely
because it was entirely new to them and required a different way of thinking. This
experience reinforced the idea that children learn best when they can actively engage
with the material rather than just memorizing definitions or rules.
4. Why this learning is important to me?

This learning is important because it highlights the need for a student-centered

teaching approach that focuses on conceptual understanding rather than memorization.
As an aspiring psychologist and educator, I recognize that engaging and interactive
learning fosters better retention, motivation, and a positive attitude toward education.
This experience has reinforced my commitment to making learning more meaningful
for children, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.
