2 INSTALLING AND COMMISSION AN XTM-SERIES NODE

2.1 Step-by-step instruction

Step 1 Refer to the Technical Descriptions volume of the System Manual, for the boards that you
intend to install. Check if special attention must be considered for the board. For
information how to set up the board refer to the Installation & Commissioning volume of the
System Manual.

Step 2 Mount the subrack and power it up. Refer to the Installation Guides within the Installation &
Commissioning volume of the System manual for information and safety precautions.

Step 3 Connect all patch cords and other fibres, refer to the site plan.

If an MDU40-ODD or MDU40-EVEN unit should be installed, it is important to first

set-up the board in the Embeded Node Manager (ENM) GUI and then insert the
fibres. The reason is to avoid that any old attenuation value in the MDU40 board is
used until the board is configured correctly.

Step 4 Connect serial or Ethernet port to a PC (cross-over in case of a TM-101/-102, otherwise

the cable can be cross-over or straight). Refer to section 3 Communication setup.

Step 5 Login to the system, using a web-browser, telnet or serial port, ip-address: 192.168.1.10,
netmask: 255.255.255.0, Refer to section 3 Communication setup.

Step 6 If more than one subrack is used in the node this should be configured first, refer to the
Configuration Guide within Installation & Commissioning volume.

Use the Getting Started wizard in the ENM to configure the basic settings (these settings
can also be done without the wizard using CLI). Choose to save and re-start.

Up to and including R19.0.1 it is not possible to use XTM-Series nodes in networks with IP-
address range 10.0.0.0/16 since these are used internally in the nodes. From release
R19.0.2 and onwards a change was introduced that masks the ip-address used internally
to 10.0.0.0 – 10.0.15.X. The address range 10.0. 16.X and upwards can thus be used in
the network without any conflict within the XTM-Series nodes.

Step 7 Login with the new IP-settings.

The IP-settings on the PC to must probably be changed to correspond to the new settings
in the node.

Step 8 Use the ENM GUI to create all boards, all PPP-links and other settings of the boards (most
of the settings are also possible to configure sing CLI).

If you only want to use one of the Optical Supervisory Channels on a CU-SFP, the used
ports MUST be number 1-2 for proper function.

If you have a TPDDGBE, TPD10GBE-BU or a MS-MXP board that should be set in

repeater mode in a TM-101/-102 subrack you need to delete the board before starting to
configure the board in repeater mode. This is done in the following way:

1. Select General link in left pane.

2. Select Delete board link.
3. Check the TPDDGBE/TPD10GBE-BU/MS-MXP board and press OK button.

The PPP link ID MUST be set to the same value in both ends of a link.

When a TP10GCLX/TC, TP10G/TC-ER or a TRX100090 is used it is very important to set

the expected frequency to the frequency that you want to use. Otherwise the board will not
start up.

An OA17C or OA2 17/17C of earlier release than R2B cannot be set in constantGainHI
mode.

Step 9 If the boards you are using are not fully configured using the wizard, configure these
boards afterwards. Configure the settings by double-clicking on the board in the Equipment
View in the ENM GUI. If using CLI, the configuration is made in different MIBs. Refer to the
installation manuals for Traffic Units and the Generic Configuration Guide within
Installation & Commissioning section of which MIBs that are used for the board type.

Step 10 If a GBE10-EMXP board is used, the management channel might need to be set-up. Refer
to the generic Configuration Guide).

Step 11 Set-up static routes or OSPF configurations if needed refer to Designing DCN Network
plans within the Installation & Commissioning volume.

Step 12 Perform the tests described in the Commissioning Guide within the Installation &
Commissioning volume of the System Manual.

Step 13 Prepare the system for operation as described in the Commissioning Guide.

Step 14 Save the configuration in each node to assure the same settings are used if the equipment
is powered down or up or if the system is rebooted.

3.3 Connection using Local Craft ETH port (ENM GUI)

The local craft ETH port is labelled as Craft ETH on a CU-SFP/III.

It is possible to access the node using the local craft ETH access and a PC running DHCP
(Dynamic Host Control Protocol). To connect to the ENM GUI type lc.localnet or just
lc in the address bar of your browser. The hostname lc is resolved by the DNS server on
the CU-SFP/III board. The IP address of the DCN port should also work.

The local craft ETH port runs in 1000Base-T mode (1G Eth) or lower speeds depending on
the auto negotiation.

3.3.1 Local Craft ETH

You need to have the following values from your network plan before you can set up your
node (necessary steps).

IP address (IPv4 or IPv6) example 172.18.2.136/26

Default Gateway (IPv4 or IPv6) example 172.18.0.1
Preferred NTP server (IPv4 or IPv6) example 192.168.021.63
