6. SAMPLE ESSAY (Opinion Essay)

Topic: Some people think that governments should spend money on the arts, while others think it is a waste

of money. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Governments around the world often allocate part of their budget to support the arts. While some argue that

this is a waste of resources, others believe that funding the arts is essential. This essay will examine both

sides of the argument before concluding with a personal viewpoint.

On one hand, spending money on the arts may appear unnecessary when there are more pressing issues

such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Critics argue that art does not solve real-world problems

and that public funds should be directed toward services that benefit a larger number of people.

On the other hand, art plays a crucial role in preserving culture, inspiring creativity, and promoting tourism.

Many people find joy and emotional relief in museums, theaters, and exhibitions. Furthermore, the creative

industry can generate employment and boost the economy.

In my opinion, while basic needs should be prioritized, investing in the arts is also important for a

well-rounded society. A balanced approach is essential.

In conclusion, although there are valid arguments against government spending on the arts, I believe that it

brings long-term cultural and economic benefits that justify the investment.
