2. Communication with D270
The D270 can be connected to external devices in three ways: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and serial.
Bluetooth: The D270 device receives GPGGA and GPZDA data from RTK via a Bluetooth
connection. Note that the rover should output GPGGA and GPZDA data.
Wi-Fi: A laptop can access the web page of the sounder through a Wi-Fi connection, enabling
users to view real-time waveforms, set parameters for bathymetric surveys, and record data.
It can also be connected to Hydrosurvey via Wi-Fi to collect and post-process data.
Serial port: The D270 outputs water depth data through a serial port.
3. D270 web page introduction
a. To connect to D270, you can use Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or a serial port.
b. Open the browser and enter "192.168.53.27" to access the web page.

3.2. Set up
The main menu contains four parts. Next, we will introduce each of them one by one.
3.2.1. Communication settings
The D270 is capable of connecting to Wi-Fi and can be used to load the base map. Additionally,
it can be set to connect via Bluetooth to receive GPGGA and GPZDA data. Be sure to choose
the appropriate antenna type and enter the value for the "Height to water" setting, which is
the distance from the bottom receiver to the water level.
Figure3-2 Communication settings
Two ways to output GPGGA and GPZDA
1. Output GPGGA and GPZDA 5HZ from receiver
There are two ways to set NMEA output:
1. Through the web page:
Visit the web address 192.168.1.1
Enter the username [admin] and password [password]
Navigate to the IO configuration and set the NMEA output through the serial port. Ensure that
CHCNAV D270Quick Start User Guide | 2023-11 Page| 3
the baud rate is set to 9600 and GPGGA 1HZ is selected. Remember to save the settings.
2. Through the controller:
Connect the Landstar with the rover
Click on [NMEA Output] -> [Serial Port Output]. Ensure that the baud rate is set to 9600 and
the output is set to GPGGA 1HZ.
3.2.2. Parameter Setting
Range:The different ranges are related to different parameters for filtering noise. Therefore,
we usually set the range setting to "auto.”
Gain: Gain is used to adjust the strength of the reflected signal, which can help filter out noise
data. Typically, we set the gain setting to "auto".
Draft: This refers to the distance from the bottom transducer to the water level.
Format: The current format for D270 is SDDPT.
Work mode: You can choose between low or high frequency to conduct a bathymetric survey.
High frequency (200kHz) is suitable for most environments. However, if the water is too muddy
and there is too much noise data, you can try using low frequency for the survey .
Note: You can not use low and high frequency simultaneously. To conduct a survey using low
frequency, you must replace the transducer with one that is designed for low frequency use.
The mud thickness can not be measured by D270. The surveyor should use equipment
specifically designed for geophysical measurements, such as a sub-bottom profiler,
penetrometer, seismograph, or a simple bottom sample.
Water temperature: The temperature is measured using the transducer, which allows us to
calculate the sound velocity in real time by using the temperature to correct the depth.

Connect the Landstar with the rover
Click on [NMEA Output] -> [Serial Port Output]. Ensure that the baud rate is set to 9600 and
the output is set to GPGGA 1HZ.
3.2.3. Depth filter
To filter out noisy data, set minimum and maximum water depths.
Shoal setting: a beep will sound when the boat runs into shallow areas.
3.3. Storage and download
3.3.1. Data recording
Record1: It will automatically record data after access the depth and positioning.
it will create another dep file every 3000 points.
Record2:You have to make some settings before we start the survey.
Anto Record: it will record data automatically when you turn on the echo sounder.
Frequency:it is the data frequency that you want to record.
Record limit: Fixed, float, single can be an option based on the data accuracy, we
basically select fixed.
Raw data storage: it is the waveform data.
Record Point limit: for example, we select ‘3500 automatic line change’, that means
it will create a new dep file once the points are more then 3500.

3.3.4. System setting
▪ On this page, you can update the two firmware for your echo sounder. It is recommended
to update the firmware every three months to ensure optimal performance. To obtain the
latest firmware, please contact your local CHC dealer from which you purchased the
receiver(s). If you need to contact CHC technical support, you can reach us by email at
[email protected] or on Skype at chc_support.
Please note that you should upgrade the firmware one by one, and click ‘Restore Factory
settings’ after completing upgrade firmware.

4. Hydrosurvey operations
To create a new project in HydroSurvey 7, click on [Project] - [New Project]. The "Project name"
is already set as the default and does not need to be modified, as recommended. There are
also some default coordinate systems that can be chosen for the project.

4.1.2 Connect the Wi-Fi
Find the Wi-Fi corresponding to the Serial Number of the boat. Create a connection between
the boat and your computer. To get a stronger signal of Wi-Fi you should mount the 5G antenna
on the boat.

4.2 Data Processing
4.2.1 Water depth sampling
Water depth sampling is a process that corrects depth data and handles incorrect depth data.
After sampling, all data can be selected in the data export section using an htt file. This process
is divided into four steps.
1..Handle the depth data
Double click a depth file in the depth file list.
CHCNAV D270Quick Start User Guide | 2023-11 P a g e | 11
Figure 4-8 Depth sampling interface
As shown in Figure 5-7, the green line at the top of the main interface indicates the
elevation of the water surface and the fixed state (yellow represents floating and red
represents a single point). You can adjust the [Depth H] and [Width] to modify the
main interface. The green line displayed on the bottom interface indicates the depth,
and the red line represents the simulated echo signal. If these two match well, the
depth can be trusted and accurate. Otherwise, you may have selected the wrong depth
points. In that case, click [Eraser] to delete the points. It is suggested to handle the
depth files in turns.
3.Select a proper[Sample Interval]
Choose an interval for exporting the data. Select a value in the [Sample interval] setting,
then click [Sample]

4.2.2 Data export
To export data, click on [Data processing] > [Data Export]. Select the Htt files and
choose a file type. There are some default format options available, and the format
can also be modified via [Customer]. Finally, export the data to your desktop by clicking
[Export].
