1. Find the mean absolute deviation of the following set of data. (3marks)

2. A right solid cone has a radius of 10cm and a slant height of 15cm. Given that the radius and
slant height has error of 0.2% and 0.4% respectively, find the percentage error in finding its
curved surface area (3marks)

3. The height of a rectangle room is 3m more than its width and the area of the room is 40m 2.
The room is to be carpeted leaving a uniform margin of 20cm all around. Calculate the area
of the margin. (4marks)
4. In the figure below, AB and CD are chords of a circle that intersect externally at T. Using a
ruler and a pair of compass only, construct the circle (3marks)

5. Solve the equation log2(x2-4)-log2(x+2)+4=0 (3marks)

6. The position vector of A is 3i + 2j + 4k and of B is 5i – 2k. T divides AB in the ratio 3;-2.


Find the co-ordinates of T (3marks)

7. A quantity y varies partly as another quantity x and partly as the square of x. when x = 20, y
= 45 and when x = 24, y = 60
a) Express y in terms of x (3marks)

11. The cash price of a Television set is Kshs. 24,000. It can also be sold on Hire purchase terms
with a down payment of Kshs. 5000 and equal monthly instalment of Kshs. 2,200 for ten
months. Calculate the carrying charge (3marks)

12. a) Use binomial expansion to expand (a-x)5 (1mark)


b) Use your expansion up to the 4th term to estimate the value of (2.99)5 to 3 decimal places

13. In a school, a students can participate in hockey basketball and hand ball. The probability
that a student participate in them is 2/3, ¾ and 3/5 respectively. Find the probability that a
student participates in at most one sport (3mrks)

14. Evaluate 5cos2ϴ = 2Sin ϴ - 2 given that -1800 ≤ ϴ ≤ 1800 (3marks)

17. The table below shows income tax rates for the year 2024.

In the year, June earned a basic salary of Ksh. 34,320. In addition he is entitled to a house
allowance of Ksh. 12,000, a commuter allowance of Ksh. 6,000 and a non-taxable risk allowance
of Ksh. 10,000. He contributes to a provident fund of Ksh. 7,500. Calculate:
a) Juma’s taxable income per month. (2 marks)

b) Juma’s PAYE if he is entitled to a personal relief of Ksh. 2,400 per month. (5 marks)

c) The following deductions are made monthly from his pay: NSSF = Ksh. 450, NHIF =
Ksh. 2,700, Bank loan = Ksh. 6,840. Calculate Juma’s net monthly pay. (3 marks)
18. The marks of 50 students in a mathematics test were taken from a Form 4 class and recorded
in the table below.

c) It is given that student who score over 45 marks pass the test. Use graph in (a) above to
estimate the percentage of students that pass. (2 marks)
19. Three towns A, B and C are on earth surface such that A is on the west of B on latitude 600 S
and C is on the north of A.
i) Find the position of A if B is (600S, 200E) and the distance from A to B is 4615.7km

21. Three consecutive terms of a geometric progression are 32x+1, 9x and 81 respectively.
a) Calculate the value of x. (3 marks)

b) Find the common ratio. (1 mark)

c) Calculate the sum of the first 4 terms of the series. (3 marks)

d) Given that the fifth and the seventh terms of the G.P form the first two consecutive terms
of an arithmetic sequence, calculate the sum of the first 20 terms of the arithmetic
sequence. (3marks)
22. A building contractor has two types of lorries P and Q used to transport at least 42 tonnes of
sand to a building site. Lorry P carries 4 tonnes of sand per trip and lorry Q carries 6 tonnes
of sand per trip. The two lorries are to use less than 32 liters of fuel. The number of trips
made by lorry P should be less than three times the numbers of trips made by lorry Q. lorry P
should make more than 4 trips.
a) Taking x to represent the number of trips made by lorry P and y to represent the number
of trips made by lorry Q, write all the inequalities that are represented by the information.

b) On the grid provided, draw the inequalities showing the possible region.

c) Use your graph in (b) above to determine the numbers of trips made by both lorries to
deliver the greatest quantity of sand. (2 marks)
23. The figure below (not drawn to scale) shows a rectangle ABCD with AB = 96m and diagonal
AC = 120m.

a) Construct the locus, L1 of point equidistant from A and B and locus L2 of point
equidistant from BC and BA. If L1 and L2 meet at N inside the rectangle, locate point N.

b) A point X is to be located inside the rectangle such that it is nearer B than A and also
nearer AB than BC. If it is not greater than 48m from N, shade the region where the point
could be located. (4 marks)

c) Calculate the area of the region shaded. (3 marks)


24. An object start moving from a point O with a velocity of 5m/s. If its acceleration after a
second is given by (8-t)m/s2.
a) (i) Express its velocity, V, in terms of t (2 marks)

(ii) Determine its velocity during the third second. (3 marks)

b) Find
i) The time taken for the object to attain maximum velocity. (2 marks)

ii) The distance that had been covered by the object when its velocity was maximum.
