TASK
Loadshedding has become part of our everyday lives as South Africans. Load shedding, while it is dark, is
one of the greatest challenges simply because one cannot see. You are required to design a battery-
operated circuit for a house. The design must include 1-2 lights controlled by at least one switch.
INSTRUCTIONS
Part one and two of the task will be done individually while part three will be done in a group.
Most of the task will be done in class while the rest may be completed at home.
You will be given 3-6 lessons to complete this task.
Content
PART ONE: ELECTRIC CIRCUITS (15)
Complete the questions provided.
PART TWO: DESIGN (25)
Develop a design brief according to the guidelines given and draw a flow diagram.
(10)
Draw two rough sketches of a house with a circuit in the space provided. Sketches must be
colored in a drawn neatly with labels. Your sketches should be two different ideas.
(10)
After you decided as a group what your design will be, draw your final sketch in space provided
and give labels for the electronic components.
(5)
PART THREE: BUILD A MODEL (30)
Choose a design as a group and build a 3-D model of a house with a battery-operated circuit
that will accommodate 1-2 globes and a switch/s.
Your house should be built from recyclable materials.
