LGBTQ Comm

The LGBTQ community consists of individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer, and has expanded to include various other identities such as questioning, intersex, and agender. Members share a sense of empathy and solidarity due to their collective experiences of prejudice and discrimination, as well as a historical awareness of oppression. Events like Pride Month commemorate significant moments in LGBTQ history, such as the Stonewall riots, and the community continues to advocate for equal rights and recognition.

‭LGBTQ community‬

‭LGBTQ community‬‭, a group of persons in any country,‬‭region, or locality‬

‭who identify as‬‭lesbian‬‭, gay (in the narrow sense‬‭of being a male who is‬
‭sexually or romantically attracted to other males),‬‭bisexual‬‭,‬‭transgender‬‭, or‬
‭queer‬‭. The term‬‭LGBTQ community‬‭is also commonly used‬‭to refer to groups‬
‭of LGBTQ persons who support or participate in LGBTQ activism. Since the‬
‭early 21st century, LGBTQ‬‭communities‬‭have been understood‬‭to‬‭encompass‬‭a‬
‭variety of‬‭sexual orientations‬‭and identities beyond‬‭those directly referred to‬
‭in the‬‭acronym‬‭LGBTQ‬‭—among them, for example, “questioning,”‬‭“intersex,”‬
‭and “agender”—and for that reason the acronym is often expanded in‬
‭corresponding ways, as in‬‭LGBTQIA‬‭, or is rendered‬‭more simply as‬‭LGBTQ+‬‭.‬

‭Members of LGBTQ communities typically feel some degree of‬‭empathy‬‭and‬

‭solidarity with each other based on their shared experience of‬‭prejudice‬‭,‬
‭discrimination‬‭, and disrespect. Their sense of‬‭community‬‭is also informed by‬
‭their awareness of the historical and contemporary oppression of LGBTQ‬
‭persons.‬
