Instructor: Mr. Sharma
Email: [email protected]
Term: Fall Semester

About this Course

AP Microeconomics is a college-level course that introduces students to the principles of economics that apply to the
functions of individual economic decision-makers. In this course students will develop familiarity with the operation of
product and factor markets, distributions of income, market failure, and the role of government in promoting greater
efficiency and equity in the economy. Students will learn to use graphs, charts, and data to analyze, describe, and explain
economic concepts.

Textbooks/Resources
This course will provide a digital textbook to deepen the learning experience and provide PowerPoint slides to introduce
microeconomics related topics. The course will provide the student with a review folder to systematically prepare him/her
for the College Board AP Exam and advance college level understanding of the required exam content.

NOTE: We will also be using a variety of resources from various publishers including URLs for Internet sites which are
made accessible via the Miami Country Day course bulletin board.

Technology Systems
The lesson plan, classwork/homework, and assessments will be posted on Miami Country Day School course bulletin
board. Students are required to check the course page at least once a day to stay updated with latest information for

MCDS Grading Policy

All FORMATIVE work must be completed by the end of the unit. Students cannot hand in formative assignments later in
the semester to earn points. The formative assignments are practice within the unit and need to be completed during that
timeframe.

All SUMMATIVE work needs to be completed by the end of the term, or the student will receive an incomplete and no
credit for the term.

Late Assignments & Make-Up Work Policy

When an absence occurs, it is the student’s responsibility to inquire about, complete, and submit assignments, as well as
arrange times for making up assessments. The number of days a student has to make-up all work corresponds to the
number of days absent. For example, a student who is absent for three days will have three school days upon return to

complete any make-up work. Absences exceeding five days will require a meeting with the teacher to establish a plan to
make up assignments and assessments.

Due to the variety of types of assignments across varied course topics, late policies may differ between various
assignments. It is the responsibility of the student to be aware of these policies and meet the expectations for timely
communication and necessary arrangements with the teacher.

For school-related and excused absences, students may receive full credit for completed assignments and assessments,
but only if timely communication takes place with the teacher of the course. "Timely communication” is defined as
communication at least one school day in advance of a scheduled absence (e.g., known trips, early dismissals for athletic
events, scheduled doctor's appointments), and no later than the day of return to school for unexpected, excused
absences. A lack of timely communication is subject to the late/make-up policy for the course, which may contain costly
deductions that can have a large impact on the student's grade.

For unexcused absences, students may receive up to 70% credit for assignments and assessments completed. As
always, timely communication is expected, and make-up work is still subject to the stated late/make-up policy for the
course if not completed within the timeframe stated in the first paragraph.

All assignments are expected to be submitted, and all assessments are expected to be completed adhering to the make-
up policy. Assessments and assignments not completed/submitted in accordance with the make-up policy will
result in a zero (0).

Course Participation
Students are expected to attend class with a positive attitude, be prepared with all materials, and engage in classwork and
discussions in a respectful and appropriate manner. Any student off task will earn a zero for class participation for the
week. Participation grades are given weekly to keep the student on task and prevent them from deviating from the course
deliverables.

Course Rules / Attendance / Attitude

It is critical that students are present during scheduled classes. Attendance is essential. When a student is absent it is the
student’s responsibility to follow up with the teacher to confirm if any work was missed and to make up any missed
assignments/assessments.

Attending classes on-time, coming with a positive attitude, being ready to learn, having manners, and demonstrating
respect for fellow students is crucial to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. Students are required to follow
all MCDS regulations and policies. Students will get one verbal warning before other disciplinary actions are considered.
There is ZERO tolerance for disrespect in the classroom.

Academic Integrity
Cheating is not tolerated. Plagiarism and/or copying another person’s work or ideas without proper sourcing is
unacceptable and cases of such are immediately referred to the administration. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Although the use of AI is authorized in this course under the provided conditions of the MCDS authorized AI assessment
scale which can be accessed on the course bulletin board, students are required to reference the use of such AI driven
resource. However, academic originality and integrity remains at the forefront of this course and any violations will be
dealt with in accordance with the Upper School policy.

Syllabus Caveat
All course materials, pacing, and grading policies may be amended by the instructor. This syllabus is a living, breathing,
and most importantly AMENDABLE document. Please be understanding of this fact. Any course amendments
will be discussed and announced during class.
