MAIN LESSON:
Steps for Adding/Subtracting Fractions:
1. Find a Common Denominator:
● If the denominators are the same, you've
already found a common denominator.
● If the denominators are different, find the least
common multiple (LCM) of the denominators.
This LCM will be your common denominator. ACTIVITY:
● Convert each fraction to an equivalent fraction
with the common denominator. Multiply both
the numerator and denominator of each
fraction by the factor needed to get the
common denominator.
2. Add or Subtract the Numerators:
● Once the fractions have the same denominator,
add or subtract the numerators as indicated.
● Keep the common denominator.
3. Simplify (if needed):
● Check if the resulting fraction can be simplified.
If the numerator and denominator have a
common factor, divide both by that factor to
reduce the fraction to its simplest form
