(i) This questions paper contains – five sections A, B, C, D and E. Each section is compulsory. However,
there are internal choices in some questions.

Rohit cuts a cake with a knife on his seventeenth birthday. The circular cake is represented by
𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 = 1. The sharp edge of the knife represents a straight line given by 𝑥 + 𝑦 = 1.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions.


(i) Draw the suitable geometrical figure representing the above situation in a graph paper. Also
shade the smaller region formed by the line and the circle in the first quadrant and above
x-axis.
(ii) Using integration, find the area of the smaller region shaded above.

38. Read the following passage and answer the questions given below: (2+2)
A manufacturer has three machine operators A, B and C. The first operator A produces 1% of
defective items, whereas the other two operators B and C produces 5% and 7% defective items
respectively. A is on the job for 50% of the time. B on the job 30% of the time and C on the job for
20% of the time. All the items are put into one stockpile and then one item is chosen at random.

(i) What is the probability of getting a defective item?


(ii) If the item so chosen is found to be defective. What is the probability that it was produced
by B?
