LEARNING EXPERIENCES
As part of my vocational/technical training program, I completed an internship
focused on the repair and maintenance of electrical and home appliances. This
internship provided valuable hands-on experience in diagnosing, servicing, and
repairing commonly used domestic appliances such as fans, irons, washing
machines, refrigerators, mixers, and microwaves. The purpose of this internship
was to develop practical skills, understand appliance working mechanisms, and
apply safety practices in real-world scenarios.

Learning Objectives

 Gain a solid understanding of how various home electrical appliances

function.

 Learn how to safely handle and repair electrical appliances.

 Acquire the ability to identify and troubleshoot common faults.

 Develop hands-on skills using basic and advanced tools.

 Understand the importance of customer service and workplace professional

Technical Skills Gained

During the internship, I was trained under experienced technicians who guided
me through real appliance issues. Some of the key technical skills I learned
include:

1. Diagnosis and Fault Identification:

 Used tools such as multimeters, continuity testers, and clamp meters.

 Identified faulty components like burned-out heating elements,
malfunctioning motors, broken timers, and damaged wires.
 Interpreted wiring diagrams and appliance manuals.

15
2. Repair and Servicing Work:

 Replaced fan capacitors, mixer blades, damaged iron thermostats, and

washing machine valves.
 Fixed common problems like non-spinning washing machines, overheating
irons, and non-functioning microwave ovens.
 Cleaned internal components to remove dust, dirt, and blockages in
ventilation or water flow systems.

3. Soldering and Wiring:

 Repaired loose connections and broken wires using soldering tools.

 Replaced worn-out power cords, plugs, and switches.

19
CONCLUSION
The completion of my internship in the field of electrical and home appliance
repair has been a transformative and educational experience. This hands-on
training allowed me to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical
application, and it significantly strengthened my understanding of how household
electrical appliance’s function, how to detect faults, and how to execute repairs
safely and efficiently.

Throughout the internship, I had the opportunity to work with a variety of

appliances, including ceiling and table fans, electric irons, mixers, washing
machines, refrigerators, and microwaves. Each appliance presented unique
operational principles and challenges, which enhanced my adaptability and
problem-solving skills. For example, working on a malfunctioning washing
machine taught me how to test solenoid valves, replace inlet pipes, and understand
water level control mechanisms. Repairing a non-heating iron taught me how to
check continuity, test thermostats, and safely replace heating elements. Every task
deepened my technical knowledge and sharpened my diagnostic abilities.

One of the most important outcomes of this internship was learning how to use
diagnostic and repair tools effectively. I became comfortable working with
multimeters, soldering irons, wire strippers, screwdrivers, and various other hand
tools. More importantly, I learned how to handle them with care and precision,
ensuring both my safety and the longevity of the equipment I was working on.
This technical exposure has given me a strong foundation to continue improving
and adapting to more advanced tools in the future.

Safety played a central role during this internship. Before starting any repair work,
I was trained to ensure all appliances were disconnected from power sources, wear
personal protective equipment (PPE), and follow standard operating procedures.
I developed the habit of double-checking all connections and testing circuits for
live current using a multimeter before proceeding with repairs. This awareness

20
and respect for safety not only protected me but also instilled a sense of
professionalism and discipline that will guide my future work.

Apart from technical skills, I also developed important soft skills that are critical
in a professional work environment. I learned the importance of punctuality,
cleanliness, and accountability. Working as part of a team taught me how to
communicate effectively, follow instructions from senior technicians, and offer
help to peers. I also learned how to explain technical issues to customers in simple
terms, which is essential when discussing repair timelines or service charges.

Despite encountering several challenges—such as dealing with unfamiliar

appliance models, difficulty sourcing spare parts, or identifying invisible
electrical faults—I learned how to remain patient and persistent. These
experiences pushed me to think critically, consult resources when needed, and
most importantly, not be afraid to ask questions. Every problem became an
opportunity to learn something new.

In conclusion, this internship has been a crucial step in my professional and

personal development. It gave me real-world exposure, enhanced my confidence,
and equipped me with a wide range of technical and interpersonal skills. I now
feel more prepared to take on responsibilities in a workplace setting or pursue
further specialization in the field of electrical servicing. I understand the
importance of continuous learning, safety, and professionalism, and I am
motivated to keep improving my skills and knowledge.

This internship has not only strengthened my career path but has also confirmed
my interest and passion for working in the electrical and appliance repair sector.
I am grateful for the opportunity and support I received during this internship, and
I look forward to applying everything I have learned to future challenges in the
industry.
