Question 1

Let A = {9, {9}, {10}}. Determine whether each statement below is true or false. Briefly
explain.

(a) 9 ∉ A (b) 10 ∈ A (c) {{9}} ̸⊂ A

(d) A ⊂ {9, {10}} (e) {{9}} ∈ A (f) {9} ⊂ A

Question 2

Let U = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11}, A = {2, 4, 6} and B = {4, 8, 10}. Find U − (A ∩ B ) and
(U − A) ∪ (U − B ) and compare them. What do you observe?

Question 3

What can you say about the sets A and B if we know that:

(a) A ∪ B = A (b) A − B = B − A (c) A ∩ B = A

Let A be the set of positive integers greater than 10 with the universal set the set of all

how many subsets of A contain exactly two elements.

(a) Find an example of a set A such that, |A| = 3, B ∈ A and B ⊆ A .

(b) Consider the sets A and B , where A = {3, |B |} and B = {1, |A|, |B |}.What are the sets
A and B ?

(c) Find an example of a set A and B such that A ⊆ B and A ∈ B .

Let A = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}, B = {3, 4, 5, 6, 7}, and C = {2, 3, 5}. Find:
