Question for discussion
1. Describe behaviors to illustrate the Preschoolers.
a. Animism- Preschoolers tend to give lifelike qualities, inanimate objects (such as
toys and teddy bears) have human feelings and intentions. By animism Piaget
(1929) meant that pre-operational child the world of nature is alive conscious and
has a purpose.
b. Egocentrism- most preschoolers describe that they themselves feel. They also
believe that everyone shares their point of view. According to Piaget, the
egocentric child assumes that other people see, hear and feel the same as the
child does.
c. Centration- focusing on one aspect of situation and ignoring the others, example
of this is when a child is given a biscuit broken in a piece. During this stage
children have difficulties thinking about more than one aspect of any situation at
the same time; and they have trouble decentering in social situation just as they
do in non- social contexts.
d. Lack of conversation- child’s inability to understand that qualities remain
constant even when they change shape.
e. Irreversibility- this is the inability to reverse the direction of a sequence of
events to their starting point.
f. Transductive reasoning- children do not use deductive or inductive reasoning:
instead they jump from one to another and see cause where none exist.
2. Read the excerpt from Albert Einstein’s biography. Examine Albert Einstein’s preschool
development in the light of cognitive development in the light of cognitive development in
early childhood discussed. How different was his childhood from the average childhood?
(language development, Einstein’s lifelong memory that compass, parent’s and
teachers’ underestimation)
Based on the biography of Einstein, he was an anti-social and poor student who
was disrespectful in his teachers. He has a different development from the other
children because he was a slow learner. He started to talk at the age of 3 but still
not fluent at the age of 9. The brain development of Einstein was suggested to
some neuroscientists that the reason behind his late of learning to talk was
unusual development of his brain from the autopsy. At the age of 5 his father
gave him a compass, he began to puzzle over the nature of magnetic field
through his life. His parents consulted a doctor to ask about his slow learning
development. He also had an impertinent revolutionary in the authority which led
one headmaster to expand him and another to amuse history by saying that he
would never amount too much.
3. To enhance the preschoolers’ development in his symbolic thinking, language, attention,
memory function, and metacognition, what developmentally appropriate practices would
you not recommend?
To enhance the development of a preschooler, I suggest that the parents should
do the right things or the things that the child needs while raising them, like
attention, love and support from them especially when the child was trying to
achieve something they need those three so that they will have a motivation to
achieve it, and also time, everyone needs time to learn new things because
there’s no learning comes quickly, we, the people surrounds the child should
understand that and won’t force them to learn fast.
4. Critics argue that too many preschools are academically oriented and stressful for young
children. Do you agree? Explain.
No, preschoolers were not that academically oriented because nowadays they
are focusing on internet as their primary source of information, online games and,
they were focused on playing. In summary of the academically oriented was all
about preschoolers that concludes that even they were given academically
concern activities, they have some cases that even it is wasted due to the
changes in their daily life, habit, and tradition.
5. Does preschool matter? Doesn’t preschool rob the child of irretrievable childhood?
Defend your stand.
Yes, preschool matter, their curriculum is teaching them to develop their ability in
academics. But their focused and interest was not aligned to academics, their
minds are not yet ready to absorb new learnings especially in terms of
academics. Because they were most interested in socializing like having new
friends and exploring the world. They should not be forced to learn how to read
and write, we should understand that it was not, yet their interest and we should
let them enjoy their childhood.
6. Explain the meaning of the quote beneath the title of this module.
“There are children in the street who could solve some of my top problems, in
physics, because they have modes of sensory perception that I lost long ago.”
-J. Robert Oppenheimer
It says that the child’s brain development has great interest in the field of early
childhood. Maybe because also of the environment which has a crucial role
development that’s why our brain forms a specific connections which differ in
every individual.

To enhance the development of a preschooler, I suggest that the parents should
try the homeschool , because in that way they can watched over their children,
and they should do the right things that the child need while raising them, give
them enough attention, love and support, motivate them in everything they do
and appreciate small things that they love. Teach them and guide them but don’t
force them to learn fast because everything takes time.
4. Critics argue that too many preschools are academically oriented and stressful for young
children. Do you agree? Explain.
No, preschoolers are not that academically oriented and stressful because
nowadays they are just focusing on internet as their primary source of
information, every time they need to pass an assignments or outputs they just
simply copy and paste the information they needed.
5. Does preschool matter? Doesn’t preschool rob the child of irretrievable childhood?

Yes, preschool matter, because in preschool the child learns to discover himself
or herself more and also their curriculum is teaching the child to develop their
ability in terms of academics. But their interest was not focused to academics,

it means that brain development of young children has great interest to the field
of early childhood. Also its is said in this module that environment has a crucial
role in our brain and therefore, the brain forms specific connections that are
different for each person, that’s why maybe some children who are not yet
experiencing the field adults are being involved gain better understanding of the
world around them.
