METHOD STATEMENT:
Repair of Sanded 3.0mm Torch-Applied Waterproofing Membrane with Composite
Polyester
WORK PROCEDURE
1. 1. Surface Preparation
Identify and locate the damaged areas near the dome drain. Carefully remove the
concrete topping in a square section around the drain, ensuring the existing
membrane is not damaged. Clean the exposed surface thoroughly, removing dust,
laitance, and debris to prepare for repair works.
2. 2. Pipe Perimeter Treatment
Apply water plug/grout around the pipe perimeter. Allow curing for 24 hours prior to
proceeding with waterproofing installation. Ensure all drain pipes are already
installed, properly aligned, and supported with hangers/brackets beneath the slab (by
others). Any cutting of excess pipe stub-outs at slab level shall be completed prior to
the primer application.
3. 3. Primer Application
Apply Bitumen Primer AquaMast uniformly at a rate of 0.3 kg/m² on the prepared
surface. Extend primer application 300 mm on vertical wall flashings and at the base
of all raised elements. Allow the primer to dry for minimum 12 hours (depending on
weather conditions).
4. 4. Flashing Installation
Install a crown seal flashing at the drain pipe stub-out perimeter. Flashing shall be
fixed at a depth of 75 mm with 100 mm horizontal overlap.
5. 5. Membrane Installation
Align rolls of the 3.0 mm torch-applied waterproofing membrane with a 100 mm side
overlap. Begin installation from the drain outward, progressing toward the roof
center. Torch-apply the membrane with 150 mm end overlap and 100 mm side lap,
ensuring full bonding to substrate. Re-roll membrane and check seams. Seal joints
and edges using a pre-heated trowel; blown asphalt may be used for additional
sealing if required.
6. 6. Testing
Conduct 24-hour flood testing on the repaired waterproofed area. Prior to testing,
inspect the underside of slab for seepages, watermarks, or cracks. Monitor during
testing to confirm no water leakage.
7. 7. Protection and Finishing
After successful flood testing and client/consultant approval, immediately protect the
waterproofed area. Place a minimum 50 mm concrete topping, sloped toward the
drain. Final finishing of topping works shall be carried out by the General
Contractor/Owner.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
- Torch-applied waterproofing membrane (3.0 mm sanded with composite polyester)
- Bitumen Primer AquaMast
- Crown seal flashing materials
- Water plug/grout
- Torch equipment and rollers

works.
- Ensure overlaps (side and end laps) are consistent and fully sealed.
- Inspect bonded surfaces for voids, wrinkles, or poor adhesion.
- Confirm flood test results are acceptable prior to concrete topping installation.
- Maintain photographic documentation of each stage for record and approval.
