Letter of Recommendation: Preliminary Questions
Type thoughtful answers to each of these questions; this will help me write the best possible
letter of recommendation for you.
1. What’s the name and address of the school, program or scholarship for which you’re
applying?
University of Nevada Honors college.
2. What are the specifications? In other words, what does the school, program or scholarship
consider a desirable applicant? Does the scholarship or school have a certain focus? (You
may need to do some research.)
For the honors college there are 4 pillars and I’m leaning toward the resilience pillar.
How I continue to fight and strive for what I want in life. They want hard working
students who can thrive in this rigorous program. They want students who want to
succeed and go far.
3. List/explain the ways in which you match the description in answer #2 of a “desirable
applicant” for the scholarship, program or school. Be specific.
I’ve always worked hard for my grades.
I go out of my way to make sure I am set up to succeed.
I take personal responsibility for making sure I have time to do what needs to be done
If an obstacle occurs, I know that I can find a way about fixing it.
4. What are your short- and long-term goals, both academic and professional?
Short terms goals would be finishing off my senior year with straight A’s
Getting accepted into UNR
Starting my job finally
Some longer term goals could be starting my first semester at UNR
Saving up money for my college and future events
Graduating with my psychology associates, regular associates, and honors diploma
Finding a internship in the psychology program
Getting my first full time job
5. What are your academic strengths?
Cheesy sounding or not I’ve recently been told I seem like a jack of all trades. I usually
do really well no matter the subject. I’m a person who’s able to dedicate myself to
improving a academic area were I may lack. I’m not prone to procrastination which has
made my life probably 10 times easier.
I’m really good about getting in the mood to study and being able to do so.
6. What are your personal strengths?
Im adaptable
Im empathetic
Easygoing
Determined
Good natured
7. What have been the biggest challenges in your academic career, and how have you worked to
overcome them?
One of the biggest academic challenges I’ve faced has probably been when I first came to
TMCC. It was such a switch up from what I was use to. I went from being considered
super smart in average or honor classes to being average in a room full of others like me.
The course load and difficulty of the college classes was a shock, but it was intriguing.
The change and adaption was easier for me because I accepted the challenge and worked
out a plan very early on to tackle it. I changed some of my studying methods and had to
up my time management skills. I’ve come to be very productive at my college classes and
keeping my life in order.
8. What do you do outside of school that reflects positively on you? This includes holding a job,
doing volunteer work/community service, completing internships, engaging in leadership
activities, etc. that I might not know about. How long have you held these positions? Please
provided months and years.
I did volunteer work at the Nevada Humaine society from late like November 2018 to
right around early 2020 when covid hit.
I’ve just gotten a job at the DRC as a student worker and hope to be continuing to work.
Im a member of Phi theta kappa as of may 2024 and National society of leadership and
success as of August 28 2024
9. Is there any additional information you want to be sure I include in the recommendation?
I have a dedication to all my passion I show up to my Dojo and practice even if I’m not
exactly in the best mood. I made a promise to my training with them and I intend to
always up hold that.
