Fields of Application of Artificial Intelligence
MODULE 5
AI in Smart
Manufacturing
• Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most discussed and
pursued topics of today’s research.
• Data-driven AI techniques, such as deep learning, have great
potential and have been applied to many smart manufacturing
applications.
• The manufacturing system involving the smart devices and
sensors for manufacturing goods with less human interventions,
customized manufacturing instructions can be obtained directly
from end customers using internet in manufacturing
• Most of the countries have already introduced their policies of
cyber-physical systems and digital manufacturing for the
advancement of future manufacturing.

Components of Cyber-
physical systems of
smart manufacturing
• Autonomous cyber-physical systems are
systems that are capable of making decisions
and operating independently.
• Cyber-physical systems (CPS) combine, and
build on, elements from different scientific
theories and engineering disciplines, including
cybernetics, embedded systems, distributed
control, sensor networks, control theory and
systems engineering
• Cyber-physical systems generally combine
sensor networks with embedded computing to
monitor and control the physical environment,
with feedback loops that allows this external
stimulus to self-activate either
communication, control or computing
Advantages and disadvantages of
AI-based smart factory
• Advantages
• Smart manufacturing offers a number of benefits, including improved efficiency,
increased productivity and long-term cost savings.
• In a smart factory, productivity is continuously enhanced. If a machine is slowing down
production, for example, the data will highlight it, and the artificial intelligence systems
will work to resolve the issue.
• These extremely adaptable systems enable greater flexibility for businesses to operate. In
terms of efficiency, one of the main savings comes from the reduction in production
downtime.
• Modern machines are often equipped with remote sensors and diagnostics to measure
and alert operators hence problems can be detected early.
• Disadvantages
• A big downside to smart manufacturing is the initial cost of implementation.
• As such, many small to midsize companies won’t be able to afford the considerable
expense of the technology.
• These organizations will have to plan even if they can’t implement smart manufacturing
immediately.
• Smart technology is also very complex, which means that poorly designed systems could
cut into profits or produce losses.
AI-based chatbots in customer service
• Communicating with customers through live chat interfaces has
become an increasingly popular means to provide real-time
customer service in many e-commerce settings.
• Today, human chat service agents are frequently replaced by
conversational software agents or chatbots, which are systems
designed to communicate with human users by means of
natural language often based on artificial intelligence (AI).
• Customers use these chat services to obtain information (e.g.,
product details) or assistance (e.g., solving technical problems).

Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Measure
Customer Experience
• Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Measure Customer Experience
• AI to Understand Customer Experience Data
• 1. Text Analytics Based on AI
• 2. Emotion Analysis
• 3. Speech Analytics
Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Measure
Customer Experience
• Customer Experience Managers, Marketing Managers, Brand
Managers, and customer-facing employees cannot be expected to know
the customer experience across their entire journey.
• This is where AI comes into the picture.
• Mining customer insights from thousands of customer journeys with
the help of traditional analytic tools is time-consuming and laborious.
AI-enabled analytics sifts through larger and more complex data and
thereby uncovers consumer behavior.
• Customer insights platforms are gaining traction with a host of APIs
and development kits. These platforms can offer real-time touchpoint
integration with minimal investment.
AI to Understand Customer
Experience Data
• Making informed judgments on how to maximize your consumers’ (and
future customers’) experience necessitates a thorough examination of both
qualitative and quantitative data from the company and the market.
• This can be difficult for our egos to accept.
• In the form of product feedback, star ratings, user forums, social media,
call records, website reports, and chat transcripts, today’s new tech-savvy
consumers are leaving a huge trail of customer service data.
• This provides a wealth of customer service info.
Text Analytics Based on AI
• Text analytics is the process of extracting meaning from text.
• The aim of text analysis is to find consumer input so that the customer
experience can be improved.
• To discover customer sentiments, businesses use text analytics tools,
artificial learning, and natural language processing algorithms.
Emotion Analysis
• Many motivational expressions may be used to communicate a customer’s
experience.
• Anger, hatred, sadness, and happiness are all emotions that can be
conveyed by facial expressions.
• The tone and pitch of the customer’s voice will reveal whether they are
pleased.
• Body language can convey valuable information about a customer’s
experience.
• For years, such consumer actions could only be known when the customer
talked of it.
Speech Analytics
• Speech analytics is quickly becoming a valuable platform for gauging
consumer experience.
• Since the call center is often a customer’s first point of contact with a
brand, speech analytics is often used here first.
• Deep learning algorithms are presenting a revolutionary change in speech
to a transcript.
• AI makes it accurate for understanding the emotions, intent, relevancy,
and topics discussed by the customer.
• With AI, it is becoming possible to process larger amounts of speech data
quickly.
Forecasting
Purchasing
Behavior using AI
• Today, most businesses
incorporate AI technology to
reduce operational costs, increase
efficiency, grow revenue, and
predict customer behavior to
improve the overall customer
experience.
• As AI technologies increase, it has
become necessary for businesses
to recruit top AI talent in order to
maintain a competitive edge.

Predictive Maintenance
• Predictive maintenance (PdM) is a technique that uses data analysis tools
and techniques to detect anomalies in your operation and possible defects
in equipment and processes so you can fix them before they result in
failure.
• Predictive maintenance uses historical and real-time data from various
parts of your operation to anticipate problems before they happen.
Predictive
Maintenance
Advantages of predictive maintenance
• Minimizing the time, the equipment is being maintained
• Minimizing the production hours lost to maintenance
• Minimizing the cost of spare parts and supplies
Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare
Sector
• Healthcare is a front runner in adopting new technologies & innovation in
its processes.
• Similarly, in the case of Artificial Intelligence, there has been a significant
advancement over the past few years.
• Pharmaceutical & biotechnological companies, MedTech, and startups are
actively working to deliver innovative AI products across segments such as
patient monitoring, drug discovery, preclinical experiments, clinical trials,
genomics, and early diagnosis & detection tools.
• AI-based robot-assisted surgeries, cybersecurity, patient management, and
fraud detection are other areas in which AI is making significant progress.
