a) Develop foundational knowledge in plant biology, including structure, function, growth,
reproduction, and classification.
b) Develop laboratory skills in plant identification, microscopy, and experimentation.
c) Foster an appreciation for plant diversity and its ecological and economic importance.
Course Description
This course introduces the fundamental concepts of botany, including plant anatomy,
physiology, taxonomy, reproduction, and ecology. It combines lectures and laboratory work
to provide students with theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills in studying plant life.

Objectives
At the end of the semester, the student is expected to:
1. Explain the basic principles of plant structure, function, and classification.
2. Demonstrate skills in using microscopes and other botanical laboratory equipment.
3. Identify and classify common plants using taxonomic keys.
4. Apply scientific methods in conducting plant-related experiments.
5. Appreciate the role of plants in ecosystems and human society.

Topic 1: Introduction to Botany (3 hours lecture)
- Scope and importance of botany
- Careers in plant sciences
Topic 2: Plant Cell Structure and Function (6 hours lecture, 3 hours lab)
- Cell types, organelles, cell wall, chloroplasts
- Microscopy of plant cells
Topic 3: Plant Tissues (6 hours lecture, 3 hours lab)
- Meristematic and permanent tissues
- Slide preparation and identification
Topic 4: Plant Organs (Roots, Stems, Leaves) (6 hours lecture, 6 hours lab)
- Morphology and anatomy
- Dissection and observation
Topic 5: Photosynthesis and Respiration (6 hours lecture, 3 hours lab)
Topic 6: Plant Reproduction (6 hours lecture, 3 hours lab)
- Sexual and asexual reproduction
- Flower structure, pollination, and fertilization
Topic 7: Plant Classification and Taxonomy (6 hours lecture, 3 hours lab)
- Major plant groups and identification keys
Topic 8: Plant Ecology and Economic Botany (6 hours lecture)
