ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

QUESTION 1

The AC circuit shown in Figure Q1 is connected to an AC supply of 48 cos (1500t-

25°) V. The corresponding circuit parameters are R1 = 50Ω, R2 =20Ω, L = 25mH
and C = 150uF. Determine the:

i) RMS voltage
ii) Phase shift
iii) Max current Ia in the circuit
iv) Values of VR1, VR2, VL and VC

Draw the phasor diagram representing voltages and currents of the circuit.

QUESTION 2

A 1500W, 240-Vrms, 50 Hz connected load has a power factor of 0.85 lagging.

Determine the value of parallel capacitance to be connected to correct the load
power factor to 0.95 lagging. Draw the power triangle showing conditions of before
and after power factor correction is done.

QUESTION

For the three phase balanced system with impedance per phase of Z PHASE = 15∠25°Ω
in Figure Q3, determine the:

i) Voltage Vac, Vcb and Vba.

ii) Currents IAa, IBb and ICc.
iii) Power factor of the system, p.f.
iv) Total real and reactive power of the system at load connection.
