Array Lesson

The document provides instructions for creating and editing arrays of objects in three patterns: rectangular, path, and polar. It explains the steps to create each type of array and highlights the differences between associative and non-associative arrays. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of monitoring the command window for guidance during the process.

Array

Creates copies of objects arranged in a pattern. You can create copies of objects in a regularly
spaced rectangular, polar, or path array.

Rectangular

Distributes copies of the selected object into any combination of rows, columns, and
levels (same as the ARRAYRECT command).

1. Click rectangular array

2. Select object and press enter

Path

Evenly distributes copies of the selected object along a path or a portion of a path (same
as the ARRAYPATH command). To use path array you MUST have an existing path in
your workspace area (spline or line)

1. Click path array

2. Select object and press enter
3. Select path and press enter

NB: The number of copies of the shape that appears depends on that size of the shape and the
length of the path

Polar

Evenly distributes copies of the object in a circular pattern around a center point or axis
of rotation (same as the ARRAYPOLAR command). To use polar array you MUST have
an existing circle in your workspace are

1. Click polar array

2. Select object and press enter
3. Select the center of the circle and press enter

NB: The number of copies of the shape that appears depends on that size of the shape and the
circle

After creating arrays you can edit them. When you click on any object in the array, the array
ribbon appears

You can make changes such as

Add more rows and/or columns to increase number of copies

Increase or decrease space between rows and/or columns

Delete rows and/or columns

Move the array (only associative arrays)

Disassociate array except (polar arrays)

Associative arrays

Associative arrays have the advantage that they can be easily modified later. Array items
are contained in a single array. You can change the number of these items and their
spacing in an associative array. You can edit the array properties, such as the spacing or
number of items using either the grips on the array or the Properties palette.

Non-associative arrays

Non-associative arrays become independent objects after you exit the ARRAY command.

REMEMBER!

Always pay attention to your command window to know what to do next with the array tool
