TechyJaunt Final Class Project – UI/UX

Course
This document outlines the comprehensive requirements for the final class project,
designed to serve as a capstone experience for students in the UI/UX course. The project
is structured to provide a robust, real-world simulation, enabling students to apply
theoretical knowledge to practical design challenges and to build a compelling portfolio.
The meticulous design of this project document itself reflects the high standards of
professionalism, clarity, and user experience expected from aspiring UI/UX designers.

1. Project Overview and Instructions

Project Goal and Methodology
The core objective of this final project is for students to demonstrate their proficiency in
applying the full User Experience (UX) process to a real-world design challenge. This
mandate requires students to navigate all stages of the UX design lifecycle, from initial user
research and conceptual ideation through detailed prototyping and iterative testing. The
project explicitly requires engagement with typical UX phases, including Discover, Define,
Develop, and Deliver/Test. This comprehensive approach is vital, as it addresses a common
challenge in the industry where the role of a UX designer is often narrowly perceived,
sometimes conflated solely with visual design. By mandating a full engagement with the
design thinking process, students are prepared to encompass the breadth of a UX
designer's responsibilities and to articulate the value they bring beyond mere aesthetics. A
clear understanding of project goals and expected deliverables is fundamental to a
successful project outcome.

Tools to Be Used
● Figma is designated for all design work, prototyping, and comprehensive
documentation. Its collaborative features enable real-time teamwork and version
control.
● FigJam is required for early-stage activities such as brainstorming, ideation, user
flow mapping, and empathy mapping.
● For team communication and coordination, Telegram is the designated platform.

Timeline and Deadline

The final deadline for all project submissions is Sunday, August 3, 2025, by 11:59 PM.
2. Project Deliverables
General Submission Guidelines
All project deliverables must be submitted via the shared drive which will be made
available. Students are required to adhere to proper naming conventions for all files and
folders to ensure organizational clarity. A strong emphasis is placed on the quality,
completeness, and overall professionalism of all submitted artifacts. A shared
understanding of project deliverables is fundamental to a successful project.

3. Evaluation Criteria
The evaluation process for this project is designed to be transparent and aligned with the
course's learning objectives, ensuring fairness across all student groups. The assessment
will focus on six key criteria, each contributing to a holistic understanding of the students'
mastery of UI/UX principles and practices.
1. Adherence to the UX Process: This criterion assesses the thoroughness and
systematic application of the full UX process, encompassing research, ideation,
design, testing, and iteration. It evaluates the extent to which design decisions are
supported by a clear rationale derived from user insights and process fidelity. This
emphasis directly addresses the need for designers to fully engage with all stages of
the design thinking process, countering any narrow perceptions of the UX role.
2. User Research & Insights: This evaluates the quality and depth of user research
conducted, including methods like interviews, surveys, and competitive analysis. High
marks will be awarded for clear synthesis of research findings into actionable
insights, well-defined personas, and insightful journey maps. Understanding the
target audience is considered the most critical attribute of a user experience.
3. Design Solution & Usability: This criterion focuses on the effectiveness of the
proposed design solution in addressing the stated challenge and meeting the needs of
the target user group. Assessment includes the solution's usability, intuitive
interaction, and clear information architecture. The success of a project is measured
by its ability to achieve its stated goals.
4. Visual Design & Prototyping Quality: This evaluates the aesthetic appeal,
consistency, and professionalism of the user interface elements. It also assesses the
fidelity and interactivity of the prototype, ensuring it effectively demonstrates core
user flows. A polished final product is a key indicator of design skill.
5. Innovation & Creativity: This criterion assesses the originality of ideas, the creativity
demonstrated in problem-solving, and the thoughtful application of UX principles. It
values the willingness to explore novel solutions within defined constraints. The
project encourages students to experiment, innovate, and elevate their skills.
6. Case Study & Presentation Quality: This evaluates the clarity, coherence, and
persuasiveness of the final case study and the accompanying presentation. It assesses
the students' ability to articulate their design process, rationale, and project
outcomes effectively and professionally. The capacity to communicate effectively is
crucial for designers to educate stakeholders on user needs and validate the value of
their contributions.
The selection of these six specific evaluation criteria provides a comprehensive definition
of a successful UX designer. By including "Adherence to the UX Process" and "User
Research & Insights" as distinct and significant criteria, the assessment framework signals
that the underlying process and a deep understanding of the user are as important as, if
not more so than, the final visual output. This directly addresses the common
misconception that UX is solely about graphic design. Furthermore, the "Case Study &
Presentation Quality" criterion directly assesses a student's ability to articulate their work
and its value, a critical skill for professional contexts such as job interviews, stakeholder
presentations, and advocating for UX within an organization. This structured evaluation
serves as a powerful curriculum statement, guiding students towards developing a
well-rounded professional identity that encompasses methodological rigor, user empathy,
creative problem-solving, technical execution, and compelling communication, thereby
preparing them to navigate the complexities of professional UX roles.
The following table provides a transparent rubric, detailing how each criterion will be
assessed and what constitutes excellence, further clarifying expectations for students.
