📘 FREQUENCY – SHORT NOTES (For NEET)
1. Definition
• Frequency (f): Number of oscillations (complete cycles) per unit time.
• SI Unit → Hertz (Hz) = 1 cycle per second.
2. Relation with Time Period
•f 1
=
T
• Where:
• T = Time period of one cycle.
3. Wave Relation
• Wave velocity (v):
v =f ×λ
• v = velocity of wave
• λ = wavelength
• f = frequency
4. Types of Frequency
• Natural frequency: Frequency at which a system oscillates when disturbed.
• Forced frequency: Frequency due to an external periodic force.
• Resonant frequency: When natural = forced → max amplitude.
5. Frequency Ranges (Sound)
• Infrasonic → f < 20 Hz.
• Audible → 20 Hz – 20,000 Hz.
• Ultrasonic → f > 20,000 Hz.

6. Dependence in Sound Waves
• Frequency depends only on source, not on medium.
• If wave enters a new medium → λ and v change, but f remains constant.
7. NEET-HOT POINTS
✓ Frequency (f) = 1/T.
✓ Independent of medium, depends only on source.
✓ Speed changes with medium, frequency remains constant.
✓ In beats → beat frequency = |f₁ – f₂|.
