b) Equable Climate- Places near the coasts are neither too hot nor too cold.

c) Humidity- The amount of water vapour in the air.

2. Why are the places near the Equator hot?


Ans: The places near the Equator are hot because the sun rays that fall vertically over the Equator
spread over a smaller area.

Ans. The impacts of climate change include warming temperatures, changes in precipitation, increases
in the frequency or intensity of extreme weather events, and rising sea levels. These impacts threaten
our health by affecting the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the weather we
experience.

IV. Explain the heat zones of the earth, with the help of a neatly labeled diagram along with
the degrees. (Refer to pg. no-20 from the textbook.)

Heat Zones of the Earth:


1. Torrid Zone:
- Torrid means hot.
- This zone receives the maximum amount of heat throughout the year because the rays of the Sun fall
vertically on this zone. - This zone is located between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn.

2. Temperate Zone:
- The temperate zones lie in both hemispheres.
-The north temperate zone lies in the northern hemisphere between the Tropic of Cancer and the Arctic
Circle.
-The south temperate zone lies in the southern hemisphere between the Tropic of Capricorn and
the Antarctic Circle.
- These zones are neither too hot nor too cold.

3. Frigid Zone:
- Frigid means cold.
- This is due to the extreme slanting of the Sun's rays.
- The North Frigid Zone lies between the Arctic Circle and the North Pole in the Northern
Hemisphere.
- The South Frigid Zone lies between the Antarctic Circle and the South Pole in the Southern
Hemisphere.
