WHAT IS AN OPERATING SYSTEM?
It is a software.
Especially a system software.
It provides a link/connection between the computer and its user.
This link/connection is provided through the user interface.
It manages the computer hardware/components and application
software/apps.

WHAT IS THE USER INTERFACE?
The first thing you see when you switch on the computer.
This is provided by the Operating System.
Helps the user to do his/her tasks.
It helps the user have menus, tools and options.
WHAT IS A FILE?
Anything that can be saved in a computer is a file.
File can be an audio – music/song/sound
File can be a video – video recording/movie
File can be an image – photo/screenshot/emoji
File can be an animation – gif/sticker
File can be a document – letter/notes/presentation
WHAT IS A FOLDER?
A place where 1 or more files can be saved.
You can save a folder within a folder.
Any type of file can be placed within a folder.
To ease our tasks, having different folders for different types of files
and tasks is useful.

WHAT CAN BE DONE USING FILES AND
FOLDERS?
• With files and folders –
• We are able to save them in the computers.
• We can create them and rename them.
• We can open them.
• We can move them or copy them to another place/location.
• We can alter/modify them.
• Finally, we can even delete them.
HOW TO CREATE A FILE?
You can either start your document by saving it first or after finishing the document by
saving it at the end.
1. First, go to “File” in the menu bar,
2. Click on “Save” if it’s a new document or click on “Save as” if it’s a re-edited file.
3. Click on “Browse” and find your location.
Here I am picking the desktop because it’s easier to access.
4. Select “Desktop”.
5. Now rename your file to a suitable file name.
6. Finally, click “Save”.

And then choose your file location.

right corner of your application.
HOW TO CREATE A FOLDER?
1. On any drive or location on your computer.
2. Click on the right button of the mouse.
3. Select the “New” option.
4. Next, select the “Folder” option.
5. Now a new folder will appear.
6. The name of the folder will be highlighted in blue.
7. Now press on the delete or backspace key on the keyboard.
8. And delete the old name.
9. Now type a suitable file name of your teacher’s choice or your choice.
10. Finally, press the enter key on the keyboard.
11. Your folder is ready.
