Attendance Policy

Purpose:

Arch Telecom has established a consistent standard for attendance and punctuality that considers the
Company's need to operate its business with minimal disruption. As an employee, you are expected to be
punctual and regular in attendance. Any tardiness or absence causes problems for your fellow employees, your
supervisor, and our customers. When you are absent, others must perform your job, just as you must assume
the workload of others who are absent.

Procedure:

Whenever you cannot report to work or know you will be tardy, you must notify your direct supervisor or
designee as far in advance as possible, but at a minimum of two (2) hours prior to the start of your shift.
Contact with the supervisor must be a phone call. Emails and text messages will not be accepted as a form of
communicating an absence. Notifications to any employee besides the supervisor (or designee appointed by
the supervisor) are not valid.

For absences of more than one day, you must contact your supervisor or designee each day of an unscheduled
absence. For absences of three (3) days or more as a result of illness, you are required to contact Human Resources
so your leave may be handled appropriately and confidentially in accordance with all state and Federal
protection laws.

Personal issues requiring time away from your work, such as doctor’s appointments or other matters, should
be scheduled during your nonworking hours if possible.

Key Definitions:
• Absence: An absence is defined as failure to work one or more consecutive scheduled shifts for any
reason (illness, personal or family problems, car trouble, etc.) Such an instance is considered one
absence occurrence
• Excessive Absences: Excessive absence is defined as three occurrences of absence in a ninety (90) days
period. Two occurrences of absence in a ninety (90) day period will be considered excessive if proper
notice is not given to the supervisor. The time period of ninety (90) days begins with the first occurrence of
absence. Excessive absences will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of
employment, except where such absences are excused due to protected leaves under state or federal
laws.
• Tardiness: Tardiness is defined as reporting to work any time after the scheduled starting time. Leaving
early for, or returning late from, rest break or meal periods will also be considered a tardy. However,
leaving the assigned work area or the location without permission is job abandonment and will result
in termination.
• Excessive Tardiness: Excessive tardiness is defined as three or more occurrences of tardiness in a
ninety (90) day period. Two occurrences of tardiness in a ninety (90) day period will be considered
excessive if proper notice is not given to the supervisor. The time period of ninety days begins with the

first instance of tardiness. Excessive tardiness will result in disciplinary action, up to and including
termination of employment.
• Proper Notice: Failure to notify your supervisor or designee as early as possible but no later than two
(2) hours before the start of your scheduled shift is unacceptable and may result in disciplinary action.
Your notification of an absence must be timely to be considered proper notice in accordance with the
performance management policy. Failure to report an absence will be grounds for disciplinary action,
up to and including termination of employment.
• Job Abandonment: Job abandonment is defined as leaving your assigned work area or assigned
location at any time other than for your meal or rest break without permission during a work shift. Job
abandonment will result in termination.
• No Call/No Show: Failure to call and notify your supervisor or designee of an absence
and failure to show up for work for three (3) scheduled shifts is considered a voluntary resignation.
