Scene 1: The Call for Freedom(3 narrators step forward)
Narrator 1: Good morning everyone. Today, we bring to you a short play on one of the
boldest chapters in India’s freedom struggle — The Quit India Movement.
Narrator 2: It is August 1942. The Second World War is raging. The British are using Indian
resources, without Indian consent. The people are tired. The leaders are restless.
Narrator 3: And then… in Bombay… Mahatma Gandhi rises to speak.
Gandhi: We shall not tolerate foreign rule anymore. This is our final call — Do or Die!
We demand: Britishers… Quit India!
Nehru (firmly): We want complete independence — now, not later!
Patel: Every man, woman, and child must join this fight for freedom!
All Leaders (raise fists):
Quit India! Quit India!(Chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai!” fade in background)
Scene 2: Arrests and Repression
(British Officer and 2 policemen enter aggressively)
British Officer (angrily): Arrest all the leaders before sunrise! We will crush this
rebellion!(Policemen pretend to arrest Gandhi, Nehru, Patel)
Gandhi (peacefully): You may imprison us… but not the idea of freedom.
Narrator 1: Almost all Congress leaders were arrested. But that did not stop the movement.
Scene 3: People Rise
(6 Indian protesters come with banners: “Quit India”, “Vande Mataram”, etc. They speak one
by one)
Protester 1:Our leaders are behind bars, but their words live in our hearts!
Protester 2: We will not work for the British anymore!
Protester 3: We are shutting down schools and colleges! Join the revolution!
Protester 4: They can beat us, jail us — but they can’t stop us!
Protester 5 (young woman): This is not just a movement… This is a fire that will not stop until
India is free!
Protester 6: Inquilab Zindabad!
(Police lathi-charge scene is acted without contact – protesters fall but get up again)
Scene 4: Students Join the Struggle
(3 student freedom fighters step forward)
Student 1: I left my studies to join the movement.
Student 2: I distributed secret pamphlets for Quit India.
Student 3: Even if I die, I know my country will be free!
Scene 5: The Voice of Gandhi
Voiceover Gandhi: “You may have to suffer. You may even have to die. But remember —
truth and non-violence will lead us to freedom. Do or Die!”
Final Scene: A Free India
(All participants return on stage and stand in formation – tricolor or freedom pose)
Narrator 2: The Quit India Movement shook the foundation of British rule.
Narrator 3: Five years later, on August 15, 1947 — India became free.
