UNIT – 1 - DIGITAL DOCUMENTATION USING
LIBREOFFICE WRITER
CHAPTER 1 – INTRODUCTION TO STYLES
UNSOLVED EXERCISE
A.Answer the following questions:
Q.1.Write the use of fill format mode?
Ans - In LibreOffice Writer, the Fill Format Mode is a feature used for
quickly applying formatting—such as character or paragraph styles—to
multiple parts of your document, similar to using a paintbrush. Once activated,
you can select a style from the Styles sidebar and then simply click on different
portions of your text to apply that style instantly, without needing to reselect it
each time.
Q.2.Write the steps to access the Styles deck?
Ans- The steps to access the style deck is as follows:
1.Click on the “Style” tab in the menu bar
2.Then click on the “Manage style” option
3.This will open the “Style Deck”
OR
1.Click on the “F11” shortcut key on the keyboard this will also open the style
deck
Q.3.Describe the steps involved in applying the style to a paragraph using
the fill format Mode tool?
Ans - The steps involved in applying the style to a paragraph using the fill
format Mode tool are:
1.Click on the “F11” shortcut key on the keyboard this will also open the style
deck
2.Click on the “Paragraph style” icon. A list of various paragraph styles
appears on the style deck
3.Click on the “Fill Format Mode” icon from the style deck, this will turn it on,
and your mouse pointer changes into a paint bucket
4.Hover the “Fill Format Tool” over a paragraph where you want to apply the
selected style and click on any style of your choice. The selected style gets
applied to the paragraph.
Q.4.What happens when you apply and update manual formatting to a
style in a document?
Ans - When you apply and update manual formatting to a style in a LibreOffice
Writer document, you essentially modify the style itself based on the formatting
changes you've made directly to the text. As a result, the style definition is
updated to include the new formatting, and all other text in the document using
that style is automatically updated to match, ensuring uniform appearance
without manually changing each instance.
Q.5.Explain the purpose of the Overwrite option?
Ans - The Overwrite option in LibreOffice Writer is used to control how text is
entered in the document. When Overwrite mode is enabled, any text you type
will replace (overwrite) the existing characters at the cursor position instead of
shifting them forward. The purpose of this option is to give users control over
text editing, especially in cases where replacing specific text directly is more
efficient than deleting and retyping.
B.APPLICATION BASED QUESTION
Q.1.You are preparing a list of items, and you want to format it with bullet
points that are indented with specific spacing. Which style category you
will use to format the bulleted list?
Ans - To format a bulleted list with specific indentation and spacing in
LibreOffice Writer, you should use the List Styles category. The List Styles
category is specifically designed for formatting numbered and bulleted lists.
It allows you to:
o Apply consistent bullet or numbering formats
o Set indentation, spacing, and alignment
o Customize bullet characters or numbering styles (e.g., Roman
numerals, letters)
CHAPTER 2 – WORKING WITH IMAGES
UNSOLVED EXERCISE
A.Answer the following questions:
Q.1. Name any five properties of drawing objects?
Ans – The five properties of drawing objects present in LibreOffice writer
are
Wrapping
Anchor Border Rotate
Arrangement
design
1.Change Anchor icon: This icon allows you to switch between different kinds
of anchors like To Paragraph, To Character and As Character.
2.Wrapping icon: This icon allows a user to choose from various wrapping
options in which he can arrange a text around an image.
3.Arrangement icon: This allows a user to arrange an image in different
positions with respect to the text like bring to front, send to back, forward one,
backward one etc.
4.Border icon: This icon helps a user in choosing different kind of borders and
increase or decrease the thickness of the border line.
5.Rotate: This icon helps to rotate an image at different angles based on users
choice.
Q.2. Why do we group drawing objects?
Ans - In LibreOffice Writer, we group drawing objects to treat multiple objects
as a single unit. This is useful because it allows you to move, resize, rotate,
align, or format all the selected objects together instead of adjusting each one
individually. Grouping maintains the relative positioning and formatting of the
objects, ensuring they stay organized and consistent. It's especially helpful when
creating diagrams, flowcharts, or any layout that involves multiple shapes and
images working together as a cohesive design.
Q.3.Write down the steps to modify a given image using the image toolbar?
Ans – In Order to modify a given image in LibreOffice Writer, click on the
image that you want to modify this will automatically bring up the image
toolbar or you can also use the following steps Go to Menu Bar – View –
Toolbars – Image which contains of the following tools, you can use various
tools given below and modify your image based on your choice.
Flip Vertically Rotate 90 Rotate
left
Filter Crop Rotate 90 right
Transparency
Q.4.What are the steps to resize the drawing object?
Ans – The steps to resize the drawing object in LibreOffice writer are:
1.Select the drawing object that you want to resize
2. Selection handles (small squares) will appear around the object.
3.Click on any of the handles and drag while holding on to that handle, to make
the object smaller drag it in the inward direction and to make it larger drag it in
the outwards direction.
4. When the object reaches the desired size, release the mouse button.
5.Sometimes the resizing of the object or image may become disproportionate
to prevent this keep pressing the Shift key along with it.
Q.5.What is the difference between To Character and As Character options
in anchoring?
Ans - The difference between To Character and As Character options in
anchoring is given below:
To Character As Character
1. The object is attached to a 1. The object is treated like a
character. character in the line of text.
2. It can be placed anywhere (top, 2. Stays in line with text — like a
bottom, left, right of the text). word.
3. Moves with the character but 3. Pushes other text on its line,
doesn't affect line spacing. increasing line height if needed.
Fig: The following figure explains the difference between To Character and
As Character
B. Application Based questions:
Q.1. The magazine designers are working on an image of a famous
actress, they believe that the story about her new film would be best
highlighted if it is placed over her photo (it means the character are
running through her picture). They are new to LibreOffice Writer and are
in a great need for a quick solution? What is your suggestion for them?
Ans – The magazine designers can apply the following suggestions to make the
above changes:
1. Insert the Image:
a. Go to Insert → Image and select the actress's photo.
2. Set Image Wrap to “Through”:
a. Click the image to select it.
b. Right-click → Wrap → Through
(This allows text to appear over the image.)
3. Adjust Wrap Settings (Optional but Recommended):
a. Right-click the image → Properties → Wrap tab.
b. Set Wrap Through and choose “In background”
(This places the image behind the text.)
4. Move and Resize Text and Image:
a. You can now freely place text on top of the image by clicking and
typing.
b. Resize or reposition the image as needed.
C. Assertion and Reasoning Questions:
The following questions consist of two statements - Assertion (A) and
Reason (R). Answer these questions by selecting the appropriate option
given below:
i. Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
ii. Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A.
iii. A is true, but R is false.
iv. A is false, but R is true.
Q.1.
Assertion (A): There are three ways to align images horizontally.
Reason (R): Horizontal alignment is not available for images anchored as
character.
Ans -
• In LibreOffice Writer, images can be aligned horizontally in three main
ways: Left, Center, and Right.
• However, if an image is anchored "As Character", it behaves like a text
character and aligns according to paragraph alignment, not image
alignment options. So horizontal alignment options are disabled for such
images.
Thus, (i) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
Q.2.
Assertion (A): Cropping is used to trim the selected portion of an image.
Reason (R): We crop an image when a certain portion of the image is not
required.
Ans -
• Both statements are true and logically connected.
• Cropping is indeed the process of trimming an image to remove
unwanted parts.
Thus, (i) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
D. Statement Based Question:
In the following questions, two statements are given:
Statement 1 and Statement 2. Examine the statements
i. Statement 1 is true, Statement 2 is true
ii. Statement 1 is false, Statement 2 is false
iii. Statement 1 is true, Statement 2 is false
iv. Statement 1 is false, Statement 2 is true
Statement 1: Anchoring an image means to determine its vertical position
relative to other images or text.
Statement 2: Anchoring is only relevant when text or images are
overlapping.
Ans –
Let is analyse each statement one by one:
Statement 1:
"Anchoring an image means to determine its vertical position relative to
other images or text."
Partially True, but not fully accurate.
• Anchoring in LibreOffice Writer means linking the image to a specific
part of the text (paragraph, page, character, or as character), which affects
both vertical and horizontal positioning.
• It does not only determine vertical position.
So, Statement 1 is false.
Statement 2:
"Anchoring is only relevant when text or images are overlapping."
False.
• Anchoring is relevant any time you want to control how an image moves
with or relative to the text — even if there is no overlap at all.
So, Statement 2 is also false.
Correct Answer: ii. Statement 1 is false, Statement 2 is false
