Locus

The document outlines a series of geometric constructions involving triangles and loci using a ruler and compass. It includes tasks such as constructing triangles with specific dimensions, determining loci for points based on given conditions, and shading regions based on geometric constraints. The document emphasizes the use of precise measurements and geometric principles to achieve the desired constructions and areas.

LOCUS

NAME.............................................................ADM.................................
1. Construct a triangle PQT such that PQ = 10 cm QR = 9 cm and RP = 8 cm.
i) Construct the locus of the point x such that QX = XR and mark with the letter X
the point where this locus meets QR.

ii) Construct the locus of the point X such that QX = XR and mark with the letter X the
point where this locus meets QR

iii) Construct the locus of the point Y such that PY= 6cm and mark with the letter Y, the
point where the locus meets PR.

iv) By Shading the unwanted regions show the area bounded by the three loci by the
letter T such that QT¿ TR , PT ¿ 6 cm, < PRT¿ < QRT
Label the region required by the letter T. ( 10mks)
2. Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only, draw a triangle ABC such that AB = 5cm,
BC = 8cm and angle ABC = 600 . Measure AC and angle ACB. (5mks)

a) Locate point O in triangle ABC such that OA = OB = OC. Using O as the center and
radius OA draw a circle (3mks)

b) Construct a perpendicular from A to BC to meet BC at D. Measure AD, hence find the

area of triangle ABC. (2mks)
3. Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only;
i) Construct a triangle ABC such that AB=6cm, BC=8cm and angle ABC=600. (2 marks)

ii) On the same side of BC as A construct the locus of m such that angle BMC=600 .
(2 marks)

iii) Draw the locus of a point Q which is equidistant from B and C. (2 marks)

v) Draw the locus of a point R such that RC=3cm. (1 mark)

vi) Draw the locus of a point P such that the area of triangle BPC=12cm2.
(2marks)

vii) Locate the region by shading such that; (2 marks)

Angle BMC ≥ 600, BQ≥QC, RC<3cm and the area BPC is greaer than 12cm2
12cm2
4. A flower garden is in the shape of a triangle ABC such that AB = 9M, AC=7.5M
and angle ACB=75˚. Using a rule and a pair of compass only.

a) Construct ABC (3mks)

b) Construct a locus of P such that AP = PC. (2mks)

c) Construct locus of Q such that it is equal distance from AB and BC and locus of R
which is 2m from AC. (2mks)

d) Flowers are to be planted such that they are nearer AC than AB and less than 5m
from a shade the portion with flowers. (3mks
