PROBLEM STATEMENT AND RELEVANCE
• The Core Challenge
• Farmers in India and across the globe face significant challenges due to a lack of accessible
knowledge. They often struggle with understanding their soil's health, selecting the most
profitable and suitable crops, and accurately predicting the investment required and potential
returns. This knowledge gap leads to suboptimal yields, financial instability, and unsustainable
farming practices.
• Real-World Impact
• Economic Impact: According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), over 10,000 people
involved in the farming sector died by suicide in 2022, often linked to debt and crop failure.
Empowering farmers with data directly impacts their livelihoods and economic security.
• Environmental Impact: Indiscriminate use of fertilizers and water, driven by a lack of information,
leads to soil degradation, water scarcity, and pollution. Precision agriculture can drastically reduce
this environmental footprint.
• Statistical Insight: A study suggests that data-driven farming can increase crop yields by up to 30%
and reduce water usage by up to 50%, showcasing a massive opportunity for sustainable smart
living
The Solution: FarmyTech
Core Idea & Approach
FarmyTech is an AI-powered web platform designed to be a farmer's digital companion. It
democratizes access to agricultural expertise.
How It Works
Soil Analysis: Farmers can get a basic soil analysis or input their soil test results (N, P, K, pH levels).AI-Powered
Insights: Our machine learning model processes this data along with local weather patterns and market trends.
Personalized Reports: The farmer receives a tailored report recommending
Best Suited Crops: Optimized for their specific soil and climate.
Investment Forecast: An estimate of the total cost involved (seeds, fertilizers, etc.).
Return on Investment (ROI) Prediction: A data-driven projection of potential earnings.
What Makes Us Unique
While other apps provide generic advice, FarmyTech offers a hyper-personalized, predictive, and financial-focused
solution. We don't just say "grow wheat"; we say "grow this variety of wheat, expect this cost, and here is your
likely profit margin."
Technology Stack & Tools
Frontend
HTML, CSS, JavaScript : The foundational building blocks for creating an intuitive, responsive,
and user-friendly web interface that is accessible on mobile devices.
Justification: Essential for building the client-side structure, style, and interactivity. Wide support and ease of us
Backend And AI
Python (Flask/Django) : To handle server-side logic, user requests, and process data.
PyTorch / TensorFlow : These open-source machine learning libraries will be used to build, train, and
deploy our predictive model for crop and ROI recommendations.
Justification: Python is the leading language for AI/ML. These frameworks offer flexibility and powerful tools for
developing our core intelligence.
Data & APIs:
Weather API : (e.g., OpenWeatherMap) :To fetch real-time and forecasted weather data for the user's
location.
Market Price API : To integrate live commodity market prices for accurate ROI calculations.
Justification: Critical for making our predictions context-aware and accurate.
Feasibility & Implementation Plan
Addressing the Barrier:
We are building a simple web-app first, requiring only a smartphone and internet
connection—technology that is increasingly available even in rural areas. The interface
will be designed for ease of use, overcoming the barrier of lack of digital literacy.
Phased Implementation Plan
Phase 1: MVP (Minimum Viable Product): Develop a core model that recommends
crops based on manually inputted soil data. Create the basic website frontend.
Phase 2: Data Integration: Integrate Weather and Market Price APIs to enhance
prediction accuracy and add the financial forecasting module.
Phase 3: Testing & Validation: Partner with agricultural universities or local farming
cooperatives for ground-level testing and feedback to refine our models.
Phase 4: Scaling & Localization: Expand the model to include more regions and
languages, and explore features like disease detection via image upload.
Conclusion & Call to Action
Summary
FarmyTech leverages the power of AI and simple technology to tackle a critical
problem. It transforms raw data into actionable, profitable, and sustainable
insights for farmers, paving the way for true smart living in agriculture.
Call to Action
For Hackathon Judges: We believe FarmyTech has the potential to create
tangible change. We welcome your feedback and support to develop this idea
further
For Partners: We are seeking partnerships with agricultural institutions and
NGOs for data and on-ground validation. Let's work together to empower the
backbone of our nation.
