Title: Input and Output Devices Worksheet
Objective: To learn about input and output devices and understand their
functions.
Computers are like super-smart machines that can do lots of tasks, but they need
our help to understand what we want them to do and to show us what they're
doing. That's where input and output devices come in!
Input devices are like the computer's ears and hands. They help us tell the
computer what we want it to do. For example, when you type on a keyboard, the
computer listens to what keys you press, and that's how you can write stories or
chat with friends. When you move a mouse, it's like telling the computer where
you want it to click, and that's how you play games or draw pictures. Even when
you talk into a microphone, the computer listens and can understand your voice,
which is great for making videos or chatting online.
1. Keyboard (Input Device): A keyboard is primarily an input device. It allows
users to input text and commands into a computer.
2. Mouse (Input Device): A mouse is an input device used to move a cursor on
the screen and select objects by clicking. It provides input in the form of
movement and button clicks.
3. Joystick/Controller (Input Device): Joysticks and game controllers are input
devices commonly used for gaming. They provide input by detecting
movements and button presses.
4. Scanner (Input Device): A scanner is an input device that captures images
or documents and converts them into digital format for the computer.
5. Web Camera (Input Device): A web camera, also known as a webcam, is
primarily an input device. It captures video and images and sends them to
the computer for use in video conferencing, streaming, or recording.
6. Microphone (Input Device): A microphone is an input device used to
capture audio. It converts sound into electrical signals that can be
processed by the computer.
Output devices are like the computer's way of talking back to us. They show us
what the computer is thinking or doing. When you watch a video on your
computer screen, that's the computer using the screen as an output device to
show you the movie. If you print a drawing on a printer, it's like the computer
drawing a picture for you in real life. And when you hear music or sounds from
speakers or headphones, it's the computer's way of sharing cool sounds with you.
1. Monitor (Output Device): A monitor is primarily an output device. It
displays visual information generated by the computer, such as text,
images, and videos.
2. Printer (Output Device): A printer is an output device used to produce
physical copies of documents or images based on digital data from the
computer.
3. Speaker (Output Device): Speakers are output devices used to play audio
generated by the computer. They produce sound based on digital audio
data.
4. Headphones (Output Device) (for audio playback) and Input Device (for
microphones): Headphones can be both output and input devices. They are
primarily used for listening to audio (output), but some headphones also
have built-in microphones for capturing audio (input).
5. Projector (Output Device): A projector is primarily an output device used to
display images and video on a larger screen or surface, such as a wall or
screen.
Activity 1: Complete the following questions in your notebook.
1. What is an input device?
2. Give an example of an input device and explain how it helps you interact
with a computer.
3. What is the primary function of an output device?
4. Provide an example of an output device and describe how it displays
information from a computer.
5. Can a single device function as both an input and an output device? Give an
example and explain.
6. Why are input devices important for computer users?
7. Why do computers need output devices? How do they benefit users?
8. Explain the difference between an input device and an output device using
examples.
9. How does a microphone work as an input device?
10.Describe the role of a printer as an output device.
