MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore, in association with Institutions’ Innovation


Council (IIC) - Ministry of Education Initiative, department of ECE & IIOT jointly organized
a “Workshop on Prototype/Process Design and Development and Business and Product
Fit” on 23/5/2024 from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm in seminar hall 6.

The main aim behind arranging this program was to provide detailed information to
students about process involved in converting an idea into a prototype and to make them
understand the process of obtaining patents, with the objective of enhancing their knowledge
and motivating them to develop a product and recognition to their innovative projects.

The event started at 10:30am with a welcome speech and introduction of the Guest, following
which guest addressed the gathering.
Day 1 : Session I (Inauguration Ceremony and FN Session)

At the beginning of the inaugural session of the Workshop, Dr. Shrinivas L Gombi (Dean
Academics, MVJCE) welcomed the chief guest Mr.T.K.Rajiv, Director, Suprajiv
Technical and Management Studies (OPC) Pvt.Ltd, Bangalore. – Alumnus of 1986
batch.

Ms. Soumya & Sudeeksha, IV Sem student, MVJCE, introduced the Chief Guest and other
dignitaries, and briefly introduced the course to the participants.

The guest briefly enlisted the application of products and prototypes process in our daily life
and the advantages of using the TRL. He explained the role of TRL in developing a prototype
and students were made aware of the recent evolution of products and its technology.

Day 1 (Session II):

Prof. RAJEEV PANICKER, Professor for Practice, Dept. of ECE, MVJ college of
Engineering, Bangalore took over the afternoon session. The highlight of the session was
the basic process involved in developing a product. The session mainly focussed on the
product design life cycle. He explained how to navigate the journey from ideation to
execution, highlighting the importance of maintaining a simple-to-complex business concept
while developing a product.
He also explained about “why Prototyping is so important in design thinking” and how it
helps the ideators to launch the product successfully in the market. Later, he explained about
different techniques for doing prototype and the steps in the Process Design development.
The session was really informative to the students especially who are in the initial stages of
prototyping and design process.

Outcome of the event

As a result of this Workshop, the participants were able to learn understand the challenges
associated with the product development process and the necessary steps involved in taking a
concept to market. The workshop also provided a platform for networking and collaboration,
allowing participants to share their experiences and ideas with peers and experts in the field.
Overall, the workshop was a valuable opportunity for anyone looking to kick-start their
entrepreneurial journey and takes their product development skill to the next level.
