SANEESWARA (LORD SATURN) Saturn (Saneeswara, Saneeschara, Shani and Sani) is the most powerful planet affecting the life of every living thing and even God. He is the only planet who has the suffix ISHWARA attached to his name. Saneeswara is reputed to be both, a giver and a destroyer. A person who prays to Saneeswara regularly will be blessed with not only riddance from the problems and worries faced, but a life that one desires. Saturn is the planet of responsibility, and symbolizes the ethic of hard work. Under its influence, a person's character is strengthened through trial and difficulty. It has been said that Saturn disciplines us until we can learn to discipline ourselves. In astrology, Saturn is the planet of diligence, self-control and limitation. Its domain is patience, stability, maturity and realism. Its influence is stern and restrictive, cold and severe. Saturn is called the Celestial Taskmaster, for it teaches us the lessons we must learn in life. In the grand plan of the universe, Saturn does not give us more than we can handle. Under Saturn's influence we achieve by overcoming obstacles and hardship. Sometimes the effort itself is the reward, for effort is what builds character. In the end, what we learn from Saturn's influence, we keep for the rest of our lives. Saturn's position in your Horoscope indicates how well you accept responsibility, whether you are self-disciplined, and what delays and opposition you can expect to encounter. When its influence is prominent you tend to be reliable, trustworthy and patient. Saturn gives the power to endure, and provides the tenacity and perseverance to realize your potential. Saturn's effect is to delay rewards until they are earned. It is the planet of courage, steadfastness and integrity. Many people shrink from accepting its burdens, but Saturn is not to be feared. If you look into your past, you will probably see that you have achieved lasting strength and satisfaction from triumphing over obstacles. As a negative influence, Saturn can make a person overly ambitious, calculating and selfish, solitary, inhibited and unhappy. Its negative influence is associated with inflexibility, cruelty, humourlessness and pessimism. Saturn also represents illness, handicaps and misfortune. Saturn is our destiny. It rules fate, the things we cannot escape, and the payment we must make for what we receive. Saneeswara resides in each Rasi for a period of 2 1/2 years. When Saneeswara resides in the 12th, 1st and 2nd house from Janma Raasi, it is 7 1/2 Naattu Sani. Thus, during this transit on Sep 26, Sani will be in
3
the 1 house for those in Kanya Raasi, 2 house for Simha, and 12th house for Thula. So those in Kanya, Thula and Simha Raasi will be in the 7.5 yr cycle as shown in chart. If Sani is in the 4th house from your Raasi, it is Ardhashtama Sani; when in the 8th house, it is Ashtama Sani. When in 4th, 7th or 10th house it is called Kantaka Sani. During these periods, he troubles the affected individual. In a person's life, 7 1/2 Naattu Sani may aspect three times, the first called Mangu Sani, the second called Pongu Sani and the third called Marana Sani. 2009 SATURN TRANSIT: SEPTEMBER 26 In 2009, Saneeswara will transit from Simha Rasi to Kanya Raasi on Sept 26 according to the Vak (perception of ancient Rishis) panchangam. On this auspicious day that represents a significant planetary re-alignment influencing several devotees lives, Lord Sanischara will be adorned with a Gold-plated Kavacha (Body Armor) and Ears. This transit is especially significant, since this is the year of the enemy (Virodhi Nama Samvatsaram) during which we are more prone to succumb to Asuri energies.

Sponsorship Details Shaniswara Kavacha Dharana Abhishekam= $108 Shaniswara Abhishekam only= $51 Navakshara Homam= $51, Archana= $11 There are 3 major types of Sani influences. They are 7 Nattu Sani (Saade Sath), Kandaka Sani and Ashtama Sani. A Chart showing the impact of Saturn on different Rasis is also provided here. But before that we should define the Zodiac, Constellation, Lagna and Raasi. Zodiac: Divided into 12 Raasi each 30 0 = 360 0 Mesha (Aries),Rishaba (Taurus), Mithuna (Gemini), Kataka (Cancer); Simha (Leo); Kanni (Virgo); Thulam (Libra),Vrischika (Scorpio), Dhanur ( Sagittarius), Makara (Capricorn), Kumbha ( Aquarius), Meena ( Pisces). Constellation: 27 Nakshtras each is 13 1/3 0 The Nakshtras are: Aswini, Bharani, Karthika, Rohini etc Each Nakshatra is divided into 4 quarters or Padas with 3 1/3 0 Each Raasi consists of 3 Nakshtras (all or fractional) When you add the Padas of each in a Raasi, it should total 9. How does the Math work? 12 (Raasi)x 30 degrees = 4 Nakshatra padas x 3 1/3 for each pada x 27 Nakshtras = 360
Lagnam and Raasi Defined: The position of the Rising Sun at the time of Birth is calculated by Astrologers and that is your Lagnam. This will be indicated in your birth chart (jathaka). Sun is the Athma Karaka and is responsible for your soul. The position of the Moon determines your Raasi. Each Raasi is associated with specific padas (quarters) of very specific Nakshtras. Meena Raasi contains all 4 padas of Uthrattadhi and Revathi but only the 4th pada of Poorattadhi. The other three Padas (1-3) of Poorattadhi are assigned to Kumbha Raasi. Thus, individuals must know not only their Nakshatra but also the Pada in which they were born in order to establish their Raasi.

7 NAATTU SANI (SADE SATI) Simha (Leo) Rasi: Makham, Pooram (all padas in both cases), and Uthram (Ist pada) have 2.5 more years. People born under these stars have already completed 5 yrs of the 7.5 yrs. Kanya Rasi ( Virgo) : Uttram ( 2,3,4 pada); Hastham ( all 4 padas); Chitra ( 1,2 padams) have 5 yrs more years. They would have completed 2.5 years already and five to go. Thula Raasi (Libra): Chitra (3, 4); Swathi (1-4); Vishakam (1-3) have full 7.5 years of the 7.5 yr Sani RASI-NAKSHTRAM CHART for 7 Sani Each Nakshtra has 4 equal parts called a Pada. The pada in which you were born determines your Rasi. For example, Krithika with the 1st Pada belong to Mesha Rasi. Krithika on the other hand with 2nd or 3rd or 4th Pada belong to Rishabha Rasi. In the following chart, Rasis are shown in bold and Nakshtra Padas are shown in parenthesis. If there is nothing in parenthesis then, it means all 4 padas are included in that Raasi. To be accurate about your Rasi, you need to know your Nakshtra and the Pada within the Nakshtra you were born. KANDAKA SANI Count the number of Rasi columns from your Janma (Birth) Rasi and if Saneeswara is located in the 4th, 7th, or 10th house from your Rasi then, you are affected by Kandaka Sani. When Sani enters Kanya Raasi (Virgo) in Sept. 2009, the following Raasis will be affected by Kantaka Sani: Meena, Mithuna, Dhanur (Count Kanni as 1 and go backwards, Mithuna will be 4th, Meena will be 7th and Dhanur will be 10th)
7
ASHTAMA SANI Count the number of Rasi columns from your Janma Rasi (your birth Rasi) and if Saneeswara is located in the 8th house from your Rasi (see chart above) then, you are affected by Ashtama Sani. As of Sept 2009, when Saturn transits into Kanya (Virgo) all those in Kumbha Raasi ( see Raasi Chart) will be undergoing Ashtama Sani for 2 years. During Ashtama Sani, people undergo difficulties and unpleasantness which will transcend the persona and benefit the soul if the persons conduct life in a spiritual way by performing spiritual Navagraha puja ceremonies at the home of the Divine Mother and in Her divine presence. SANEESWARA THE PROTECTOR The transit of Sani into Kandaka Sani, Ashtama Sani, 7 year Sani and Sani Dasa do not seriously affect the following: 1. Persons who were born in Makara and Kumbha Rasis. This is because Saturn is the Lord of Makara and Kumbha Rasis and protects those born in these Rasis even if they are undergoing 7 1/2 yr Sani, Khandaka Sani or Ashtama Sani. However, by worshipping him, they get greater protection. 2. Those who are having Makaram and Kumbham as Lagnas again because Makaram and Kumbham are lorded by Saneeswara. WHO MUST WORSHIP SANEESWARA? Saturn comes into the life of each and every person some time or other, depending upon the horoscope at the time of his birth. So everyone should worship Him. For the following categories of people it is all the more essential to worship Him 1. Those who are having the Saturn Dasa running. Its period is 19 years. Those who were born in the 'Poosham, Anusham and Uttirattati Nakshtras, will have their first Dasa as 'Sani'. 2. Those undergoing the 7 year Sani. 3. Those that are having Sani as Neecham in Mesham. 4. Those that are having Sani in the 4th, 7th, 10th (Kandaka) and 8th houses (Ashtama) from Raasi. 5. Those undergoing Sani Dasa. 6. Those born in Simha, Kanni and Thula Lagna The above basically illustrates that all of us are under the influence of Saneeswara some time or other to varying degrees and worshipping him benefits the devotee.

Hanuman also represents both Lord Siva and his consort Shakthi and so worshipping Him is like worshipping Siva-Shakthi. Similarly, worship Kala Bairava since He controls Kala (Time). Likewise, worship of Lord Siva and Mother Parashakthi will be of great benefit. AT PARASHAKTHI TEMPLE Devotees may perform any or all of the above types of worshipping at our Temple. Saneeswara Mantra will be posted in the Temple Navagraha Sannidhi room walls for your benefit. Try and participate in the Saneeswara Abhishekam and Archana which are performed every Saturday in the Temple. Canting Hanuman Chalisa and participating in Hanuman puja would help all those undergoing the malefic influences of Lord Saneeswara. Hanuman Puja is being conducted every Thursday at 7:00 pm in the Temple and so please plan to attend this Puja. Please contact our priests for more information and for performing specific puja. OTHER TRANSITS RAHU-KETHU TRANSIT: On Oct. 27th the nodal planets or Chaya Graha Rahu and Kethu will also transit after their 18 month sojourn in Makram ( Capricorn) and Katakam( Cancer) respectively . Thus on Oct 27, Rahu will move from Makaram to Dhanur ( Sagittarious) and Kethu will move from Katakam ( Cancer) to Mithunam ( Gemini). Rahu and Kethu are not true planets but, represent the Lunar nodes at opposite ends of the Zodic like head and tail. They represent the points of intersection of the moons orbit in the ecliptic. They transit in retrograde fashion ( moving backwards) indicating our past Karma. They symbolically eclipse the Sun ( conciousness) and moon (mind).

Jupiter stays in one Raasi for one year. So, it takes 12 years for Jupiter to re-visit a Rasi again. It is known as Guru Transit, or Guru Peyarchi. Slow moving planets like Saturn and Jupiter bring pronounced influences while transiting various signs. Astrologically, this brings different sets of fortunes for the different Raasi... Jupiter when posited in 2, 5, 7, 9 11 produce extremely favorable results. Jupiter when posited in the Janma Raasi (Kumbha) and in the 8th house (Kataka) produces somewhat unfavorable results.
