Content Standard: The learners must be able to show that they understand how typhoons form and move
within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Performance Standard: The learners shall be able to demonstrate precautionary measures before, during
and after a typhoon, including following advisories, storm signals, and calls for evacuation given by
government agencies in charge.
Learning Competency: Explain how typhoons develop.

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of a 45-minute discussion, at least 85% of the students should be able to:
a) Understand how typhoons develop.
b) Identify the precautionary measures before, during, and after a typhoon.
c) Describe how the typhoons affect the environment.

answers are correct. To know

more about the activity, let me
explain to all of you the
importance of knowing before,
during, and after the typhoon.

Typhoons are a common

occurrence in the Philippines,
and being prepared before a
typhoon strikes is crucial for
ensuring the safety and well-
being of yourself and your loved
ones. Proactive preparedness
can significantly minimise the
impact of these natural disasters
on lives and properties.

During a typhoon, staying safe

and taking the right actions can
mean the difference between life
and death. Typhoons can bring
torrential rains, strong winds, and
widespread flooding, making it
crucial to remain vigilant and
follow safety protocols.

After a typhoon has passed, the

risks and challenges may not be
over yet. It's essential to proceed
with caution and take specific
actions to ensure safety and
recovery.

A typhoon is a type of
large storm system
having a circular or

violent winds, typically
hundreds of
kilometers or miles in
diameter.

Generalization then rises. The rising water
results in a low pressure area. Air
in the surroundings will then
move toward the area.
 A typhoon forms when winds
blow into areas of the ocean
where the water is warm.
 These winds collect moisture
and rise, while colder air
moves in below. This creates
pressure, which causes the
winds to move very quickly.
 The winds rotate, or spin,

eye.
 The more warm air and
moisture there is, the more
intense the winds.
 While typhoons can occur any
time of year, the conditions
are most likely to be right for
them to happen between
June and November.
 In order for a storm to be a
typhoon, wind speeds have to
reach at least 74 miles per
hour.
 Once a storm becomes a
typhoon, wind speed also
determines the category of
the storm.
 A category one storm is the
lowest level, with winds
blowing from 74 to 95 miles
per hour.
 The highest and most
destructive storms are in
category five, with wind
