Basic sentence building

PHASE 1: Basic Sentence Explanation


(A2 focus)
✅ Combining Sentences with and, but, or, so, also, and because
You can use and, but, or, so, also, and because to join or link two complete sentences. Here's how each one
works:

✅ 1. and – shows similar activities or feelings


Example 1: I like my hat, and I often wear it.
Example 2: I like bright yellow, and I like bright pink.
I like two subjects math

and chemistry

✅ 2. but – shows a contrast or difference


Example 1: I wear a uniform to school, but I wear fashionable clothing at home.
Example 2: I have some pink socks, but I never wear them.

✅ 3. or – shows a choice or alternative


Example 1: You can buy the boots, or you can buy the shoes.
Example 2: On weekends, I wear baggy pants, or I wear my faded jeans.

✅ 4. so – shows a result or consequence


Example 1: Brand-name clothing is expensive, so I rarely buy it.
Example 2: I don’t like my hat, so I never wear it.
It is so fast
I’m hungry, so am I

✅ 5. also – adds another similar idea or detail (like "and")


Example 1: I love sneakers. Also, I like wearing hoodies.
Example 2: She bought a jacket. Also, she bought a scarf.
🔸 Note: “Also” often comes at the beginning of the second sentence or before the main verb.
Example: I also like watching movies.

✅ 6. because – shows the reason for something


Example 1: I wear a uniform because my school requires it.
Example 2: She didn’t go out because it was raining.

🔸 Note: Use comma before and, but, or, and so when you combine two complete sentences

Instructions: Combine each pair of sentences using and, but, or, so, also, or because. Add a comma where
needed.

1. I like long skirts. I often wear them.

🟠 PHASE 2: Basic Paragraph Development


(Late A2 – Early B1 Level)
✅ What are we learning?
We are learning how to write better short paragraphs by using important linking phrases. These help your
writing flow better and make your ideas clear.

🔹 5. Purpose
Use these phrases to explain why someone does something.
 to + verb
 in order to + verb
✅ Examples:
 I study hard to get good grades.
 She exercises in order to stay healthy.
🧠 Tip: Use "in order to" in more formal writing, and "to" in everyday writing.

🔹 6. Giving Opinions
Use these to show your personal thoughts about a topic.
 I think
 I believe
 In my opinion
✅ Examples:
 I think reading books is very useful.
 In my opinion, teenagers should sleep more.
🧠 Tip: These phrases often come at the beginning of a sentence.

🔹 7. Giving Examples / Illustration


Use these to give examples and support your ideas.

✅ Examples:
 Many people enjoy fast food, such as pizza and burgers.
 I like active hobbies. For example, I often go hiking.
🧠 Tip: Use one of these after a general sentence to explain your idea.

🔹 8. Sequencing / Ordering Ideas


Use these to organize steps or time in order.

 next  finally
✅ Examples:
 First, I wake up at 7 a.m.
 Next, I eat breakfast.
 Then, I go to school.
 Finally, I do my homework and go to bed.
🧠 Tip: Use this in routines, instructions, or describing a process.

📝 Exercise A – Complete the Sentences


Use the following words:

Instructions: Write your opinion using I think, I believe, or In my opinion, then support it with a reason
or example.
Example:

Instructions: Complete the sentences by adding examples using such as or for example. Use at least two
examples in each.

🔶 Task D – Sequencing With Details


Instructions: Use first, next, then, finally to describe a short process or routine. Choose one topic and write 5–
6 sentences.
Choose one:
 How to get ready for school
 How I prepare for an exam
 How to make tea or coffee
 What I do before going to bed
🧠 Make sure your steps are logical and use full sentences with details.
Example:
First, I pack my bag with notebooks and pens. Next, I choose my clothes for the day. Then, I eat a quick
breakfast. Finally, I leave the house at 7:30 a.m.

I’m not so happy because I like go there every week. Maybe they can do some
