Children Fun and Learn Book Subject: Science Topic: Human Body Systems Overview *****
Once upon a time, in a town a small boy, Aman, was sitting on his bed at his home. His mother was sitting next to him. Aman was a little uncomfortable and said to his mother, Maa, I am feeling very uneasy. Something is not ok with my body. Mother said, Let me check your temperature, dear.
Mother checked his temperature and then went to the other room.
She came back with a glass of water. She said, Aman, you are having fever, son. I spoke with the doctor. You take this capsule. It has a magic. This will get your fever down and you will feel much better.
Aman took the capsule in his hand and said, Oh my magic capsule. Please make me normal soon. I have a cricket match tomorrow. I hope I will get well after having you.
The capsule flew with its arms stretched inside Amans food pipe.
And soon he landed inside the stomach area. CHAPTER 2 - Fight between the organs
Capsule heard a lot of noise inside the stomach. The capsule saw that the body systems are arguing with each other.
Capsule thought, Why are all these organs of Aman fighting with each other instead of doing their respective work? That must be the reason why Aman is not feeling well. I need to control this situation.
Capsule shouted, Order, Order! Can you all stop fighting for a minute?
Mr. Brain left the fight and asked curiously, Look, look! We have a visitor here. Who are you, Mr. Visitor?
Capsule said with authority, I am Judge Capsule. You all are fighting amongst each other and Aman is not feeling well because of that. And I am sent to solve your fight. Let us start the trial now. Can someone tell me why you are fighting?
Brain answered seriously, My Lord, we are deciding who is supreme amongst all of us! They again started to argue.
Capsule shouted, Order, Order I am the Judge here. Can you be quiet first? Let me hear from each one of you and then I will decide. Let us start with you, Mr. Stomach. Why do you think you are superior?
Mr. Stomach proudly replied, speaking fast, My Lord, I am the master chef of this house. I cook the food and give it to all of them so that they get their energy to keep working. I also pick-up the solid food left-over by them, dumps it in drain and keep this place clean. Imagine for one day if you dont have food, what happens? Admit it, guys, I am the boss?
Capsule said, I agree you are an important part of the system. But let us hear from others. You are next Mr. Lungs.
Mr. Lungs was doing Yoga. He was breathing the air in and out. He was getting disturbed and said, Peace, kids. Can you please let me enjoy this air for a moment?
Mr. Lungs finished his yoga and then said, My Lord, I am the one who takes in air, extracts oxygen from it and give it to all of them. And then I blow the carbon dioxide out. Tell me My Lord, can anyone live without breathing?
Capsule replied, I cant, Mr Lungs. I agree you are also an important part of the system. But let us continue the trial. You are next Miss Heart.
Miss Heart said, while kissing in air, I love you all. I love you all! Capsule said in a strict voice, Can we come straight to the point, Miss Heart?
Miss Heart said, Sorry My Lord. You know, I run the transport system of this body. I manage a large number of vehicles in the form of blood that carries the food generated from Mr. Stomach and oxygen from Mr. Lungs and distribute it to others. She continued, When all of them are done consuming food and air, I carry their trash too. And, that is why you all should love me, love me and love me.
Mr. Capsule went in deep thought on hearing this romantic appeal from Miss Heart. CHAPTER 3 - The trial continued
Suddenly, he realized his mistake and regained composure in a hurry. He said, Sorry, Sorry. I got distracted by such an emotional appeal from Miss Heart. So who is next? Let us hear from you, Mr. Kidney.
Kidney said, I agree that Miss Heart sends vehicles full of liquid waste to me. But Miss heart dont forget I am the filtration plant that removes the liquid waste from your vehicles and then make the vehicle clean again. Imagine Miss Heart, if I stop functioning then your vehicles will be full of waste in no time! Who will sit in those vehicles full of waste, tell me, Miss Heart?
Mr. Capsule scratched his head and said You also have a valid point, Mr. Kidney. Hmm, this is the most difficult case of my life. Mr. Brain, do you have anything to say in your favour?
Mr. Brain boasted his intelligence by scratching its head and said, My Lord, these all organs are just doing what they are told to do. But they dont understand who is instructing them. I am the captain of this ship and they are my crew. It is me who takes decisions on when to move, what to do and gives necessary orders to everyone. I ensure communication between them and ensure the ship is working. So, tell me who is important. Everyone started looking at each other.
The skeleton system was a little stronger one amongst all. He started speaking without waiting for his turn. He said, Oh, yeah. You tiny organs you are superior than me! Ha, ha, ha! Thats the funniest thing Ive ever heard. I, Mr. Skeleton, I protect all of you. If I am not there, then just a simple punch from outside will damage you. I am your protector. I give the shape to the body. I am supreme!
The muscular system started speaking next, Hmm, Youre supreme, Mr. Skeleton? You are just bones without me. You wouldnt be able to stand on your own two feet, if I am not there. I help each and every organ to move. Without me none of you can move. Is it clear Mr. Stomach, Mr. Lungs, Mr. Kidney and my dear Miss heart? My Lord, I, Mr. Muscular is the supreme of all.
Mr. Capsule looked at all of them and said, I need some time to think. This court is adjourned for tonight. Mr. Capsule walked out. CHAPTER 4 - The day of the judgement
Next morning, Mr. Capsule walked in again. There was noise coming from everywhere.
Capsule said, Order, Order! I have heard from each one of you. After listening from all of you, this court of Judge Capsule gives this order. You all are important and there is no one superior to other.
Every organs mouth got opened in surprise and they cried, What?
Mr. Capsule continued, This human body is like a cricket team. In a cricket team there are different players playing different roles - batsmen, bowlers, fielders, wicket keeper, captain, coach etc. Can you imagine a cricket team which can win with only one player who is superior compared to all the others? No. Similarly you all are different players of the team body. You all depend on each other, either directly or indirectly. Then only Amans body will be functioning properly.
There was clapping by all. Everyone became happy on this judgement. Brain said humbly, My Lord, I totally agree with you! We were unnecessarily fighting. From our arguments it became clear that all of us are directly or indirectly dependent on each other. I order.. I am sorry, I request all of you, let us not fight.
Miss Heart agreed, Yes, yes we will never fight and remain together with love and harmony. Lungs added, And enjoy this fresh air.
Everyone formed a circle to huddle. Mr. Capsule began smiling. He said, Now Aman will be fine. You all dont need me. This case is closed. CHAPTER 5 - Aman is ready
It was late morning now. Aman woke up and hugged his mother He said, Maa, your magic capsule worked. I am feeling perfectly alright. I am going to get ready and go for my cricket match now. Mother said smiling, Yes my son. Go have fun and put your best in the match. God bless you, Aman. Moral of the story: Unity is strength CHAPTER 6 - Food for thought 1. Can you tell what would happen to Aman, if Mr. Stomach didnt want to work with Miss Heart? 2. Inside Amans body, organs and systems were fighting to decide who was superior. But if the Judge Capsule was given the task to decide who was the least important, what would be his decision? 3. We die when our heart stops and we cant do anything without the help of the brain. Then, whom would you favor if they both come to decide who is supreme amongst them? 4. Can the power of one beat the team work? Can you tell how strength of unity works? 5. If Judge Capsule wasnt sent inside Amans body, what would be the result of the fight between the organs?
6. Initially, Mr. Brain said that he was the captain and all others were just the crew. If anyone from that crew had quit, would Mr. Brain be able sail the ship of the body? Feel free to imagine, generate new questions, think and discuss the answer to all the questions with your friends, teachers and parents. Have Fun! ***** THE END *****
