Introduction
oStarting with a piece of information related to the topic (background)
-Example: Nowadays, internet has become a necessary tool to communicate with
others and to be informed about the latest events around the world…
-Topic: Importance of internet.

oStarting with a question


-Example: Do you speak a second language? Throughout the globalization process we are living…
-Topic: The benefits of speaking a second language.

oStarting with a direct introduction of the topic (less recommended)


-Example: In this essay, I am going to talk about the different healthy lifestyles we can adopt.
-Topic: Healthy lifestyles.
Body paragraphs
To begin a paragraph:

oFirst of all, firstly. To use in the first paragraph.


oIn addition, furthermore, besides, moreover. To add information.
oHowever, although, even though, in spite of, despite of. To make an exception or deny.
oTherefore, then, so. To conclude an idea or to express the consequence.
Body paragraphs
To link ideas in a paragraph:

o And, not only … but also …, not only … but … as well. To add information.
o If, as long as, in case of. To express a condition.
o Because, for, because of, as a result of, due to, since. To express a result/reason.
o As, just as, like (not recommended in formal essays) To compare.
