SALIENT FEATURES OF THE SYSTEM
• It is a digital switching system with single ‘T’ stage
Switch .A maximum of 2048 PCMs can be
connected.
• The system has ‘automatic recovery’ feature.
• OCB -283 has double remoting facility.
• It provides telephony, ISDN, Data communication and
other value added services.
• Various units of OCB 283 system are connected over
token rings (IEEE 802.5 standard).
• The traffic handling capacity of the system is huge .It
can handle 8,00,000 BHCA and 10,000 erlangs of
traffic.
• All the control units are implemented on the same
type of hardware. This is a station.

1. Subscriber Access Subsystem:-
•This is treated as an independent entity
•Every Subscriber Connecting Equipment
Rack has got its Signalling Point Number to
operate in Common Channel Signalling
mode with rest of the exchange

INTRODUCTION TO THE 5ESS SWITCH
• The 5ESS-2000 Switch has 3 major types of
equipment modules:
• SM/SM-2000 (Switching Module)
• CM (Communication Module)
• AM (Administrative Module).

PHONE PLUS FACILITIES
Dynamic locking
It works on a four digit secret code selected by the subscriber from
the digits 0 to 9. This code is registered with the exchange and used
for opening and locking the dynamic lock on your telephone line.
This code can be changed by the subscriber as often as he needs

CALL FORWARDING
This Facility enables the subscriber to Transfer or Forward incoming
calls to another telephone number, when he is not available to receive
calls on his Telephone. Customer can leave his office or Home without
having to miss important incoming calls.
The call forwarding has following three options:-
• unconditional or
• on busy subscriber or
• on no reply of subscriber
• How to activate: Once the facility is registered, customer can
activate the facility by dialing 114 followed by the number to which
the incoming call is to be transferred.
• Deactivation or Cancellation: Customer has to Dial 115
REMINDER CALL
• To be reminded at say 10.15 AM, he has to
Dial 116 1015 and wait for acceptance
announcement. Similarly, for registering a
reminder call for 04:30 PM, Dial 116 1630 and
wait for acceptance announcement.
• For Cancellation: Dial 117 1015
• Two local calls charged on each occasion.
HOTLINE
• This facility enables the customer to get
connected to another telephone number of his
choice without dialing the telephone
number. Customer has to just lift his receiver,
wait for 5 seconds and he will be connected
automatically to the HOTLINE number.
•
• To make call other than the HOTLINE number
customer has to dial within 5 seconds of getting
dial tone.
CALL HUNTING
• if a subscriber is having more than one line, Call hunting
facility, helps him to use the lines effectively. This facility
automatically transfers your incoming call to a free line.
Subscribers need not indicate numerous numbers of their
organisation on their visiting card or business letters.
Principal number need only be indicated or printed.
• By availing the call hunting facility for a group of numbers
of an organization, If the principal number is dialed, the
exchange will automatically hunt for a free number in the
same group and the incoming call will land on the free
number.
CALL ALERT
• Call Alert facility alerts the subscriber of
another incoming call on his telephone while
he is already in conversation. This facility
allows the subscriber to take the second call
keeping the first party on hold.
• Activation: Dial "118" to activate the service.
• Deactivation: Dial "119" to deactivate the
service.
CALL CONFERENCING
Three Party Conferencing is a service that allows
you to dial two numbers simultaneously, thus
enabling all 3 parties, i.e. the two called
numbers and you, to conference at the same
time.
New Features added in PSTN
• Introduction of Personalized Ring Back Tone (PRBT) for
PSTN subscribers through PRBT server of GSM MTNL
Delhi Unit, without procurement of separate server to
save the cost of PRBT Server.
• Introduction of DND service for PSTN Telemarketer
subscribers through DND server of GSM MTNL Delhi Unit.
• Migration of MTNL’s Toll Free service (FPH) from C-DOT
to BSNL’s Alcatel IN Platform.
New Features added in PSTN
• Implementation of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in
MTNL Delhi PSTN.
• Introduction of City Wide Centrex facility for the PSTN
subscribers and Resident of Group Housing societies
through NGN switch to maintain subscriber base of
MTNL.
• Introduction of special Tariff Plans for large Group of
subscribers e.g. for L/L numbers of officials of Central
Bureau of Direct Tax (CBDT).
