Infrared Plastic Solar Cell-1

This document describes an infrared plastic solar cell that uses nanotechnology to absorb more of the sun's energy than conventional solar cells. It consists of cadmium selenide nanorods dispersed in a polymer layer sandwiched between electrodes. The nanorods absorb infrared light and generate electrons and holes to produce a current between the electrodes, even on cloudy days. Potential applications include thin, flexible solar panels for charging devices and powering cars.

ABSTRACT
 Nanotechnology is the core of science .It
includes anything smaller than 100
nanometer.
 Nanotechnology is often referred to as
general purpose technology
 The use of nanotechnology in the solar
cell created an opportunity to overcome
the problems of conventional solar cell
regarding efficiency and functionality on
cloudy days.
INTRODUCTION
 The plastic solar cells uses
nanotechnology and contains the first
solar cells able to control the suns
invisible , infrared rays.
 Because of their small size and light
weight, they exhibit unusual and
interesting properties
 The conventional solar cell is absorbs
35% of the suns total energy
Scientists have invented a plastic solar cell that
turns the suns power into electrical energy
even on a cloudy day and it absorbs 30%
more than conventional solar cell.
Plastic cell could one day become five times
more efficient than conventional solar cell.
INFRARED PLASTIC SOLAR CELL
 Scientists have invented a plastic solar
cell that turns the sun power into
electrical energy even on a cloudy day
 nano particles called quantum dots are
combined with a polymer to make plastic
that can detect energy in the infrared.
 While half of the suns power lies in the
visible spectrum and remaining half in
infrared spectrum.
DESIGN
 The solar cell created is actually a hybrid ,
consists of tiny nanorods dispersed in an
organic polymer or plastic
 Nanorods are made up of cadmium selenide
 This layer around 200 nanometer thickness
(which 1000th thickness part of human hair) is
sandwiched between electrodes.
 The electrodes are coated with aluminium
WORKING
 The working of this type of solar cell is same
that of conventional solar cells but these solar
cells are of small size and controls all rays
from sun radiation.
 Nanorodes in the plastic solar cell acts like
wire when they absorb light of specific
wavelength they generate a electron and
electron hole vacancy in the rod that moves
around just like an electron
 This electron travels the length of the rod
until it is collected by aluminium electrode
 Thehole is transferred to the plastic
which is known as a hole carrier and
conveyed to electrode creating current
APPLICATIONS
 Development of a super thin disposable
solar pannel posters
 A hydrogen powered car with plastic
solar cell could potentially convert energy
into electricity and continually recharge
the cars battery
 Plastic solar cell can also charge cell
phones ,can also be used in the house
hold consumption of electricity
ADVANTAGES AND
DISADVANTAGES
 More energy is  A bit costlier and
consumed even on needed higher
cloudy days maintainance and
 It is flexible , roller, constant monitoring
processed solar cell
have the potential to
turn the suns power
into a clean, green
,consistent source of
energy
CONCLUSION
 Plasticsolar cells help in exploiting the
infrared radiation
 They are more effective when compared
to conventional solar cells and can even
work on cloudy days
 Though at present cost is a major
drawback ,it can be solved in near future .
