?3What is a Use Case Diagram
A use case diagram is a dynamic or behavior diagram in UML.
Use case diagrams model the functionality of a system using actors and use cases.
Use cases are a set of actions, services, and functions that the system needs to perform. In this context,
a "system" is something being developed or operated, such as a web site.
The "actors" are people or entities operating under defined roles within the system.
?Why
4 Make Use Case Diagrams
Use case diagrams are valuable for visualizing the functional requirements of a system that will translate
into design choices and development priorities.
They also help identify any internal or external factors that may influence the system and should be taken
into consideration.
They provide a good high level analysis from outside the system.
Use case diagrams specify how the system interacts with actors without worrying about the details of
how that functionality is implemented.
5 Basic Use Case Diagram Symbols and Notations
1-System :-
Draw your system's boundaries using a rectangle that contains use cases.
Place actors outside the system's boundaries
6
2-Use Case :-
Draw use cases using ovals. Label the ovals with verbs that represent the system's functions.
7
3-Actors
Actors are the users of a system. When one system is the actor of another system, label the actor
system with the actor stereotype.
8
4-Relationships :-
Illustrate relationships between an actor and a use case with a simple line. For relationships among use
cases, use arrows labeled either "uses" or "extends." A "uses" relationship indicates that one use case is
needed by another in order to perform a task. An "extends" relationship indicates alternative options
under a certain use case
9
:Associations-5
A line between actors and use cases. In complex diagrams, it is important to know which actors
are associated with which use cases.

Book publishing use case example
This use case diagram is a visual representation of the process required to write and
publish a book. Whether you’re an author, an agent, or a bookseller, inserting this
diagram into your use case scenario can help your team publish the next big hit.
Try this demo template to get started on your own.
11 Use Case Diagram Examples
The best way to understand use case diagrams is to look
at some examples of use case diagrams

12 Restaurant business model
Customer wants to Have Meal, Candidate - to Apply for Job, and Contractor -
to fix some appliances. Note, that we don't have such actors as Chef or Waiter.
They are not external roles but part of the business we model - the Restaurant,
thus - they are not actors. In terms of RUP Chef and Waiter are business workers.

14 Website Administration
Two actors using administrative interfaces are Website Administrator and Help Desk. Help Desk uses a
subset of functions available to the Website Administrator. All top level use cases shown are abstract as each
represents some group or "package" of administrative functionality.
