RATIONALE
The UV Political Science Internship Program is meant to provide
students with an opportunity to complement their formal learning with
practical knowledge, skills and desirable attitudes and to gain hands on
experience in recognized Host Training Establishment (HTE) ( Sec. 1,
Art. 1, CMO No. 104, s. 2017). The Industry-Academe partnership is a
cooperation in which the industry helps the academe on how to improve
the quality of education by providing a locus in order to apply what the
intern learned in the school. In doing so, the intern understands better the
demands of the industry and the real-world jobs as well.
The exposure and the immersion is part of the training in preparation for
the reality the intern will go through in the arena of employment.

What is internship?

It is a 6-unit academic course


requirement mandated by CHED
taken by a fourth year or incoming
fourth year student consisting of 240
hours on-the-job training in the
industry or service sector.
OBJECTIVES OF PRACTICUM
FOR STUDENTS:
 Provide students with opportunity to apply relevant knowledge and skills
acquired from formal education to actual work setting.
 Enhance the knowledge and skills acquired in formal education through
employer-based training to be responsive to the demands of the labor market.
 Develop the life-skills of students, including those relevant to the values of
professionalism and work appreciation.
 Acquire soft skills necessary to address the demands of the employers, such as
communication skills, interpersonal skills, financial literacy, etc.
 Learn professional work ethic in the course of internship.
OBJECTIVES OF PRACTICUM
FOR THE UNIVERSITY
 Enrich the degree programs of the university to respond to the needs
of the industry.
 Promote mutually industry-academe collaboration/linkages.
 Strengthen career guidance.

FOR THE COMMUNITY
 Provide a venue where they can customize the process of technical
training through employer-driven internship plans.
 Select well-equipped beneficiaries.
 Have another opportunity to contribute to the society through
corporate social responsibilities.
WHO SHOULD UNDERGO PRACTICUM?

 Fourth year or incoming fourth year students.


 Must have taken all the prerequisite courses for Practicum
THE PRACTICUM PROCESS?

 Attend Internship/Practicum/OJT Briefing/Orientation

 Choose a reputable company/institution

 Write a Letter of Application to your chosen company/institution

 Ask the Internship Coordinator to write an Endorsement Letter to the


company/institution
THE PRACTICUM PROCESS

 Once accepted, request the company/institution representative for a


confirmation or an acceptance letter.
 Submit a notarized written consent from parents or legal guardians.
 Fill-out the Internship Waiver Form.
 Secure a Medical Certificate stating in its purpose “for internship
training.”
 Execute a Memorandum of Agreement.
NOTA BENE: ONLY STUDENT INTERNS WHO HAVE
COMPLETED THE REQUIREMENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO
UNDERGO THE INTERNSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM.

 PLACE ALL THE DOCUMENTS IN THE CLEAR BOOK
 SUBMIT CLEAR BOOK TO THE INTERNSHIP COORDINATOR
FOR SAFEKEEPING
 PHOTOCOPY ALL THE DOCUMENTS FOR YOUR OWN FILE
INTERNSHIP COORDINATOR’S VISIT
The Internship Coordinator shall visit the student intern during
his/her practicum assignment. Such visit shall be communicated to the
student intern via a phone call/text, indicating a period within which
he/she will be visited.
INTERNSHIP PORTFOLIO
During your internship assignment, compile your Internship Portfolio (Internfolio) with
documents, such as, but not limited to
1.all the preliminary requirements
2. internship Record
3. name, background, organizational structure, and VMGO of the company
4.journal of internship (process of finding the internship placement, reflection about working
in the company, work schedule, most memorable internship moment, difficulties and solutions
made, etc.)
5. Documentation (internship daily time record, internship weekly monitoring sheet,
internship visual output evidences, certificate of completion)
6.rated evaluation form,
7.acknowledgment, and curriculum vitae.

Nota Bene: Internfolio shall be submitted 15 days from the last day of the internship
assignment.
GRADING SYSTEM
Immediate Supervisor’s Rating 50%

Internfolio (based on contents and quality) 40%

Internship Coordinator’s Rating (based on your


performance during adviser’s visit including interview
with your supervisor, and your timely submission of
Internfolio) 10%

Total 100%
