What is Ethics?
moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the
conducting of an activity.

dependent on individuals.
Ethics is what you have to do when everyone is seeing.
This is imposed by the society or the peer group.
Ethics in Biological research
Ethics in research most of the time refers to biological
research.
Treating and handling animals.
Using humans.
Data and personal information protection
Effect on environment
Safety of personnel involved
Ethics in science and technology research
Acknowledging earlier researchers/ plagiarism
Truthfulness in data presentation
Accuracy of measurements and Budgeting error.
Safety and environmental concerns
Stating assumptions
Could lead to a patent or publication
Acknowledging earlier researchers
Examples in truthfulness of data
Accuracy of measurements and Budgeting
error.

Repeatability
All your results must be repeated and checked.
They should be repeatable by any body.
The strange case of Dr. Jakiel and Mr. Hyde
The journal of irreproducible results.
Patent infringement
Use of technology/ circuit / procedure patented
should be done with written permission.
Patent infringement can be a legal issue
May even invalidate your invention or work
Example of patent infringement
CUK converter
A DC/DC converter with low ripple
Content
A text book stuff but patented
Rice with beta carotene/ vitamin A
A type of rice developed with vitamin A useful for
predominantly rice users. A genetically modified
form that uses another patented process. Hence
could not be given free to poor people free.
Safety
Safety of personnel.
When nanomaterials are used
Poisonous materials are used
Safety of environment when disposed
Dumping down the drain, Burial, air dispersion
Safety of product during use.
Breakage, contact with skin, use by children
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is copying sentences, pictures, data without
acknowledging or permission.
Turn it in Software checks for plagiarism.
If you have to use what is in other paper in
introduction and literature survey use your own
sentences, figures.
Short quotes are fine
Know the use of software.
Could lead to a patent or publication
If you publish it is not patentable in India
Apply for a patent and publish later; 3- 12 months

Conclusions

It ensures that you do not affect people or
environment around you.
Ensures there are no legal implications.
Your work will be well recognized.
